Yes, I've heard this on PBS a couple of times in the last week. The question is should a corporation that organizes and manages sports franchises, making billionaires richer, taking subsidies from cities, and takes in $9 billion a year, should it hold non-profit status? I find this to be perplexing. Maybe I'm too uninformed to have the "correct" view, but it seems odd to me.

Should the NFL be a NonProfit?

This author thinks they should not. Apparently the NFL is not the only ones- “nonprofit” Professional Golfers Association Tour, the National Hockey League and the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association.

I can thin of literally zero reasons they should be a non-profit.

The NFL as an entity is a non-profit organization. It acts as a governing body for all teams. It considers itself a trade association.

And, in case you're curious, this is a trade organization:
The teams are who pay the players. The teams are strictly entertainment for/profit entities. They pay taxes. (Except for the Green Bay Packers.)

What would be accomplished by making the NFL a for-profit organization?

The NFL is chump change. Let's begin taxing religious institutions. We could retire our national debt in five years.

Let's not forget these bogus tax exempt political groups.
