Millions of baby girls get their ears pierced leaving a permanent scar on their earlobs, should we ban ear piecing in infants?

It's their bodies and they should have the right to choose if they wanted their ears pierced.

B-but, what other reason is there to have a baby girl other than to tart her up and use her as paedo bait?

Not to mention when they get old their ear lobes get all saggy from the piercing! We should ban this archaic ear mutilation. And they say they don't even feel it, must be why they scream when they have their ears pierced...

Should this topic be merged with the current wienie-whacking thread?

Exactly, mutilation it is, and who wants saggy ear lobes? ;)

I think that it should be outlawed on little children, but not until they're 18. I think that at about 9 and a child should be able to make this little decision for themselves.
I wouldn't legislate this, though as it's not a big deal; it's just my personal opinion.

Hey Wally, Don't Canadian (and American) babies still have those three holes in their heads? There's no need to whack a ring in, just pick them up like a bowling ball.

I don't think it should be legal to pierce anyone without their informed consent.

I'd be pissed if this decision was made for me before I was able to decide myself.

    Still haven't mastered setting-up a poll, I see.

Or is it that you require everyone with an opinion to genuflect in your presence?

I prefer to allow parents to make such decisions for their children.

    Should we outlaw sports too?

I have 3 permanent scars from playing hockey when I was a kid, in which my parents introduced me to.

I prefer to stay out of how parents raise their and in turn they stay out of my parenting decisions.

It was pretty eye-opening reading the circumcision thread. I had no idea so many men were apparently scarred for life.

As for me, my ears were first pierced when I was 3 months old. Don't know if it hurt, though I'm sure it did. I have zero conflict about being "mutilated without my consent". In fact, as I got older I added 3 additional holes in each ear - oh, and I don't have saggy earlobes (what's that about?)

    No.

The relative change to the body is very small when compared to a circumcision.

And the person, when able to decide for themselves, could always close the holes by not continuing to wear earrings.

If only reversing a circumcision were so easy.

If the kid asks for earrings, then so be it.

I don't think a boy would want his penis to be chipped away at voluntarily.

Waloshin, you might want to start a thread about cutting the children's hair... what if they wanted to grow it? ;)

The ear piercing ritual is usually performed by a moil and is steeped in tradition.
