Hello.

Ok, so I never planned on upgrading my X this year but something happened 3 months ago.. I dropped my phone (because I was in a hurry and received a text while opening my car and stupidly enough had to check my phone) and it felt on the ground and scratched the upper left edge steel frame. It’s a small but deep scratch. I’m very ocd and I know buyers can be very ocd about buying used phones as well... I would be. It’s space grey, so you can’t polish off the scratched of the steel.

So, do I stay with it ‘til 2019? Or do I buy the new X2 by the end of the year (unboxed online) and sell the old one while it still has some value considering it’s scratched on top of being an outdated model once the X2 comes out..?

I’ve attached a pic. It’s really hard to tell because it gets blurry up close. But you can tell the scratch on the steel, but what you can’t see is some tiny cuts in the frame that’s inbetween the steel and screen (in the black frame before the screen) ignore the dust around the screen it’s a really bad screen protector.

It’s a phone, it’s going to scratch and show signs of wear over the course of time. That’s the nature of how it is when you use something on a daily basis like a phone. I wouldn’t just sell a phone because of one scratch on it, unless you’re entirely set on upgrading to the 2018 iPhone X.

Do whatever you think.

You're gonna lose money on that phone but if you can afford it and it makes you happy then get a new one. There are a lot of people who wouldn't mind getting a deal on an X with a small scratch.

The pic makes it look like you've got dust in the front facing lenses/sensors also. Any chance the drop compromised the seal?

Anyway, if you do go to the trouble of getting a new iPhone and you are OCD it makes sense to me that you'd use a case. I like to avoid cosmetic damage myself which is why I use one.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I’ve tried taking a new pic, and I hope you can tell by this one the cuts in between the steel frame and the glass itself. I know, it’s not worth getting a new one over this, and yes I do wear a big silicone case from Apple ever since, but it’s the value that concerns me. Selling a scratched phone is one thing, selling a scratched AND old phone is another... I’ll see what will happen at September. Perhaps there will be a feature I’ll fall in love with that makes me want to upgrade no matter what, or I’m gonna stay with my current one.. especially if the red one comes out in spring

If you can afford it, just unload it. Yeah it's minor, and yeah it's bound to happen, but if you are on the verge of a new one coming out, it bothers you, and you can afford it knowing the money is going to something you enjoy, then I don't see the harm in getting a fresh start. Think of all the other crap you could suddenly have to spend $1000 on without any chance to even think about it, like when your water heater breaks or whatever. At least this way, you get some enjoyment out of that $1000.

Do what you want, it's your cash - if the scratches bother you get a new one (knowing it will suffer the same fate) if you can live with them then wait it out until something catches your eye to really make you want a new one...

I’m gonna stay with it unless there’s something appealing about the X2, but I won’t switch for the cut and scratches I’ve decided.

No, that was due to the new scree protector after the old one broke. I just got it replaced with a cutout instead, my Face ID finally works faster again.

Fix it with a sharpie. You should be using a case if you care about scratches. Pretty silly to sell it for that...

Super silly reason to sell it and upgrade, if you ask me.

I would just use a case and forget that it was ever there. Of course, if you are looking for justification to upgrade, then by all means, carry on...

Can't that stainless steel be polished like new? You could try that instead and clean it too, it will look like a brand new one.

If you read the first post in this thread, The OP has a *space gray* iPhone, you cannot polish the stainless bands due to the PVD coating. Only the regular stainless bands with the silver iPhone can have the bands polished with the Cape Cod cloth or polishing paste.
