when I tell Siri to set my hue light to “soft white”, it responds “Setting light to carbon arc” and then proceeds to set the bulb to a brilliant, outdoor blueish color.

I found lots of references to possible correct commands, but the only one that seems close to a true soft white color is to ask Siri to set the light to “topaz”.

Anyone else find a better solution?

Try vanilla. That one works well for me. There are literally a bunch of crazy terms you can try.

Try and say “tan”, that’s a good color. But since it’s Siri, she might confuse it with “ten” and adjust the light level.

What’s interesting is if I say “Siri, make the lights topaz”, it comes back and says “ok, the lights are topaz”. But if I then ask “Siri, what color are the lights” it comes back and says “the lights look like they are coffee or light brown”.

I have not had the Hue lights for long, but I assume somewhere in the system it assigns a 0-255 value to RGB to create the range of colors. (Or something like that). It would be cool if you couldn’t define a color based on those combinations and then have Siri learn a voice command that would bring that specific color up.

Why not create some scenes for various bulb color temperatures? I have my soft white color temperatures set to a scene called "Evening". I also have a scene called "Daylight" that sets the bulbs to a temperature around 5000K.

Like cavemonkey50 suggested, I created a scene I call "Normal" which is programmed to give me the equivalent of 4700-5000k on my bulbs.
