Seems like Microsoft is still on to a winner here. The new software update is out on December 6th and it adds a bunch of online TV streaming options.

How can you say xbox 360 is out of date if there isn't anything better? (spare the xbox vs ps3 vs whatever) If nintendo had its new generation system available (the same goes for sony) then I might get people complaining, but all systems available are roughly equally old... so...

I think its good that consoles live for so long. I would not want to be forced into buying a new xbox every year!

I agree. It is nice not having to rebuild one's library all the time

I'm really surprised that they are selling these numbers given all the hardware problems they had. I've heard about people having to return several units for repair due to the dreaded Red Ring of Death. They better sell a lot of units to make up for those issues since it cost them $1 Billion to pay for the repairs.

No, cause you'd have to replace every X.

Gotcha. I was thinking only the X portion. since I was looking at the x in box as a word, not just a letter.

I know it's not like other companies can sell millions of devices with such issues surrounding antenna design or battery issues.
All I can say is MS fixed my RRoD at no cost to me.

I love my Xbox 360, I currently don't see any reason to update it to a new one with sales still flying.

Have you nothing nice to say about Microsoft? Really? This is a pretty massive achievement. You'd be posting your links and writing your long paragraphs on how Apple were the best tech company in the world and how everyone else just weren't cut out to be successful in the video games console market.

For your information, it isn't just 16 year olds who are into non-portable video gaming. And even if it was, that is a hell of a lot of 16 year olds Microsoft has catered for. I think Microsoft will be rubbing their hands over this.

Yeah, it didn't cost you anything, but it did cost them.

I know the recent redesign seems to have fixed the problem. I just wonder how much they actually make on the XBox. I've heard mixed signals on it. Between the R&D costs on it and the RROD losses, I wonder how much they have made on the line. I also wonder how much of this sales surge is driven by the Kinect.

After 5 replacement 360s I finally have one that has been incredibly reliable, and I really like the fact that the system has had such a long lifecycle—it has given developers the opportunity to develop really deep and well integrated games for the system, and it has allowed me to develop a library of games that is not immediately out of date.
