Sounds like a stupid question I know. But the latest version of iTunes (12.13.3.2) does not recognize my phone (running IOS 18.0.1) at all. Apple Devices does recognize it and syncs but randomly closes without notice during the sync. If I re-open Apple Devices and re-start the sync, it continues from where it left off and I (eventually) get my music synched.

Am I missing something?

Oh, and all my sync settings did not transfer over from iTunes to Apple Devices..... I had to set them all up from scratch. That was tedious ;)

If you have Apple Devices or Music installed, iTunes won’t sync. Troubleshoot the Devices issue.

So I guess that begs the question.... what program am I SUPPOSED to use to sync in Windows? Is iTunes still supposed to be usable. I'll uninstall Apple Devices and see.

EDIT: Uninstalled Apple Devices and indeed, iTunes DOES detect my phone and sync.

On background, I installed Apple Devices several days ago when the then current version of iTunes would not restore my phone from 18.1b5 to 18.0. As my reward, Apple Devices did attempt the restore but in the process, soft bricked my phone (would not boot past restore mode) ;) After that happened, a Windows update triggered iTunes to update itself and after that it would not recognize my phone even after the Apple Store managed to restore it to 18.0.... assumedly because Apple Devices was still installed?

Yes. If Apple Devices is installed, iTunes is only used for local content, not syncing. Podcasts I think, and Books maybe? I don’t personally use Windoze so fuzzy on details. But as you found, you can also remove Apple Devices to restore that functionality to iTunes.

I just got so fed up with iTunes and Apple Devices I went kinda nuclear when trying to figure out how to get my FLAC collection onto my new iPhone. I use Foobar2000 for my music player and the built-in functionality of TuneFusion to sync my music from my Unraid server. Works flawlessly.
