So prior to selling an iphone 3G, do I have to remove the sim card....

    ....and swap it in the iphone 3GS, which I've already pre-ordered?

    Yes, unless you want to risk someone else using your number.

    So then you'll just put the SIM from the 3G S into the 3G when you sell it.

    Are there any foreseeable problems with this idea?

    I'm not sure about this. I would personally just leave it out. The buyer will just use their SIM or AT&T will give or sell them one when they have it activated.

    I agree with Jeremy, at least that is what I'm doing. Whoever you're selling your phone to probably wants to use it as an unlocked unit with another carrier. If that is the case, the buyer will have a rebel sim or another carrier's sim ready to be used with the 3g phone you'll send them. Sending yours just provides personal information.

    So you guys that are unlocking -- you have 2.2.1 on a 3g iPhone? I read that you can't unlock those.
