My iPod Touch (2nd Gen, 16Mb) was working perfectly fine until Apple forced another "update" now it will not restore and all I can get is error 1611.

Per the Apple website I have tried restarting the Mac, and creating another iTunes account. Anyone else have this problem?

I didn't know apple presses install for you when an update comes up.

Try to put it DFU mode and then restore

Good news, the Genius Bar was able to restore it. When I asked them how I could do this if it occurred again they reiterated that the solution is to restore from a different Mac then the one where the problem occurred.

Nothing is wrong with the first Mac, its just that once the iPod touch crashes there is something about restoring from a different Mac that solves the problem. So, while making the appointment and going to the Apple store is inconvenient it is probably cheaper than buying a Mac Mini just to support my iPod Touch.
