So, new to mac and wondering how to properly set up my external monitor.

I have a Macbook Pro 15" with a native resolution of 1440x900.

My external monitor is a LCD with 1280x1024. It is connected with a DVI cable.

When I try to set up my display it wont let me select 1280x1024. Also, when I have my laptop hooked up to my main monitor I would like to be able to close the lid of the laptop without the computer going into stand by.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Its kind of funny how many things can be solved by randomly doing stuff till it works.

All I had to do was close the lid of my macbook and then wake it up by moving my mouse. Then it let me choose the correct resolution and the lid is closed! lol
