How much would an iPhone 3g/3gs be on an ATT upgrade? Would getting a 3g be a bad choice, or is there not much difference?

Yes, getting a 3G right now would be a bad choice.
With the new iphone releasing in 2-3 months I wouldnt purchase a 2 year old iphone that wont be able to run most 4.0 iphone OS features that are to be released.
Right now the 3G is $99, 16GB 3GS is $199 and 32GB 3GS is $299 if you're eligable for an upgrade or open up a new line.

You also may want to wait until this June (or a keynote) that will show what the newest phones will be. If you already have a phone, and can live with an old iPod for a couple months, it might be worth the wait for you. If not, definitely get the 3Gs.

3g is probaly not going to be around any longer after the new iphone comes out in 2-3 months

and it wont be able to run the new os 4
expect 3gs prices to drop to also

Also keep in mind that the 3G will (probably) be dropped of support next year just as the original iPhone was dropped with this new 4.0 update.

Worth reposting for noobs. If I were planning on buying an iPhone, I would wait until the refresh in the summer unless I found some awesome refurb deal on a 3GS. Even then, you'll likely see a 32GB next-gen iPhone at $199 this summer, so waiting is smart.
