Here's a hardware-related and buying-related question. I need to do something about my 450MHz G4 Cube. It has 1.2 GB of RAM and a 120 GB HD, so I'm pretty much maxed out. But I need more speed and I need more hard drive space (I do 3D animations). So, what would you do.... 1) upgrade the Cube with the 1.2 GHz PowerLogix processor and get a nice big external Firewire HD (cost: $700; benefit: I keep my Cube), or 2) get a new 1.8 GHz G5 with 160 GB HD (I'll stick my 120 GB in there too), SuperDrive, 1GB RAM, etc. (cost: edu discount so $2400 minus what I can get for my Cube, so maybe $1750; benefit: more speed). I thought about getting the Dual 1.25 GHz G4, but they're so noisy.... I suppose I could upgrade my Cube and get rev B of the G5s, but then I spend $700 now and probably $2400 in 6 months... What do ya'll think? Can anybody recommend (or not recommend) the PowerLogix processor upgrades? Any idea what the Cube market will do in the next year? Oh, decisions, decisions!
