    Hi,

I have an iPhone 3Gs and a Fiio E5 headphone amp. To make things simple I want a 30 pin connector to 3.5mm jack such as SilverDragon's cable...

Being a bit low on cash I am not happy to spend £20-40 on such a small cable.

I do however have an old ipod firewire cable (or newer usb ipod cable...but i like the fact the old cable has clips and will not pull out unless you squeeze the sides) and a few 3.5mm to 3.5mm cables.
Is there a way to splice and dice these two together to make my desired cable?

I am more than happy using a soldiering iron etc but not sure if it could work with the original connector.
I have also heard that there are issues getting the iphone to "know" there is a connection and not just play through the internal speakers or display an error message.

Could anyone point me in the right direction! Cheers Ben
