i am really disappointed by the fact that spotlight does not show safari history results.

honestly how hard can it be to to implement, all they need to to make spotlight index the meta-data of the pages you visits. the lack of this really annoys me. i send apples feedback section a suggestion to add safari history into spotlight.

just wonder if anyone else is annoyed by this and what you guys think

Yeah...

Of ALL the things spotlight can do and it won't show all the porn sites you visit? Damn, I would be really disappointed too.

Here's a tip...bookmark the pages you want to visit again.

Or...write a plug in for spotlight that indexes the history...if it's so important.

The sad thing is, I read that Longhorn's searching thingamajig DOES search page history. C'mon Apple, if those morons can do it surely you can!

the whole idea is, i search for a site that i remember the topic of but forget the link. and it would be nice if i got site links related to my search. and if i had a site bookmarked i wouldn't need to search for it.

and now safari has private browsing mode. so the porn wont show up. and if that would really bug you, you could always disable, along with every other spotlight feature.

Please tell me you're joking...

Yes, and it can also read your mind...

Oh wait...IT'S NOT OUT YET!

They can promise the world, but, until they actually release anything, it doesn't count. It's people like you who get all excited about the POSSIBILITIES that are in Longhorn that are feeding the media blitz.

I actually think it could be really helpful to have Spotlight show web page results. I believe that the google desktop has this feature, but I'm sure that Apple or a third-party will have a plugin relatively soon. Just be patient.

Right, it's not out yet. But the beta, I've read, has these features. I've also read that Apple has brushed aside searching Safari's history as being "too tough" which I find hard to believe. I don't think including Safari cache searching as being too much to ask for.

And yeah, I think we SHOULD be excited about any possibility that exists on either platform. We should expect the best out of whatever operating system we use. The whole reason I switched to Apple was because I saw they were doing stuff that Microsoft wasn't. And if Apple ever falls behind another OS, then hell I'll switch to that. I only have loyalty to a company that gives me a decent product. Right now, that's Apple.

sorry guys, WinFS was dropped for the initial Longhorn release. it'll come later as a service pack or something. so ya.. longhorn CAN'T do what you're asking. submit a bug report for a feature (new) and see if they implement it. god this place turned into a bunch of whiners after Tiger was released.

i am expressing my opinion, sorry if it is not all "tiger rockz" i sure do like tiger, but i think the lack of this is a real shame.

maybe if all of us suggest it to apple it will be implementing soon. i really think apple calling it "to hard" is a joke.

and for the love of god why cant MR get better servers.

Hey, I'm not whining about Tiger. I do have to point out that the, as Microsoft likes to lamely call it "Search Experience" in Longhorn is N O T WinFS. I do believe this point has been rehashed several times. Longhorn's search "technology" borrows from, I believe, the MSN Searchbar technology. I'll point out that you can see them demonstrate it in that WinHEC video that was circulating. I warn you, however, that video is so boring it may cause your heart to stop.

Oh and if you have Tiger, there's nothing in that video that you haven't already seen. ;)

i personally have no real use for it anyway. i don't think apple said it was too hard either. point is you have to add pages to spotlight when they are new.. then when they expire they have to be removed from spotlight otherwise it'll continually grow and grow and grow. submit the bug report, see if it gets implemented.

agreed.. i'll be happy when things go back to normal around here, this server is too busy garbage is getting really annoying, i'm about to go on a hiatus until this crap ends so i can actually browse the forums like i used to be able to do.

i dont think having the meta data of the pages that are currently in your history will be much of issue. all it has to index is the name of the page and all the content on the meta data tags. obviously there is the issue of what is the site was written by a amateur that does not use meta data. but if the site is written by a amateur the content cannot be that good anyway ;) issue solved.
