Yeah it basically means an exceptional, above board, update on mega-steroids. ;)

"- Next iPhone coming is an A+ update"

Sorry, I dont get it? why are people hyped up about an "A+" update?
Is this an american term as I have never heard of anything being described in this way other than at college?

Agreed. He appears to have a narcissistic tendency to him doesn't he. Don't get me wrong, he has lead multiple companies through enormous success, but I think its going to his head.

My opinion: I think the biggest mistake apple is making is not developing good relations with Adobe. They should be working with adobe to make Flash work.

I go back to the days of the Apple ][ and anyone who has been around that long can remember that Jobs was hated as much as Gates. Woz was the brains behind Apple. Jef Raskin, Bill Atkinson and Burrell Smith were the brains behind the Mac. Jobs is a marketing whiz nothing more.

Weak and closed. That's not my tomorrow ;)

As compared to what devices? There was nothing even close to the iPhone when it came out. It was something straight out of sci-fi. And even though most of you on here are willing to pillory Apple for the iPad, there simply isn't a device that's similar to it on the market. There just isn't. It's the ultimate everyday, quick access information device. It doesn't feel like a computer because it isn't meant to. (yes lack of flash isn't ideal but that's basically my only complaint without having used it)

FWIW I've used an Android phone. It's slow and unrefined IMO. Competition is certainly good, but "strong" and "weak" aren't terms that fairly describe either company's offering. They are fledgling genre-defining products, both of them.

Don't ever give me financial advice. The worlds best CEO and best CEO of the decade steering Apple to have its most profitable quarter ever, and you and others want him to step down. Actually, now that I think about it - do you have any stock tips? If you do I'm going out and dumping them immediately!

Seriously, those of you that think Steve is a failure disagree with some mighty big and credible organisations like, Fortune Magazine and the Harvard Business Review, and also with their most recent quarterly earnings. You can't argue with the numbers, no matter what you think of him. Unless, your criteria aren't profit/capitalism based??

Ok, now you're attacking me. Geez William, make up your mind.

You need to make the simple distinction in your mind between the interests of an Apple shareholder, vs the interests of an Apple customer. Things that make money for the company can hurt its customer base. A lot of old school Apple fans are starting to hate the company as much as they did Microsoft in the old days. Losing that loyal foundation of customers is a problem that could eventually hurt the share value as we start to flock to Google or whatever other competitor meets our needs better.

Maybe you need to read outside of the Apple fan reality distortion field.

Maybe you should actually address replies with something other than overused drivel. Terms like "fan boy" and "reality distortion field" are just silly and make you lose any credibility.

They need to start making products FOR THEIR CUSTOMERS instead of FOR THEMSELVES. Apple rose to popularity because their stuff was better, and it filled a need.Who needs a tablet that runs the closed iPhone OS? Give us the tablet we want, one that runs a full open os where we can install what we like, bought where we like. Steve realizes he miscalculated this one, and now he's lashing out / justifying. Reminds me of "Pirates of Silicon Valley".

"If I’d asked my customers what they wanted, they’d have said a faster horse" — Henry Ford

I say we trust Apple. I mean, if they make a bad product, it's their bottomline that will suffer. The iPod has proven revolutionary. The iPhone has proven revolutionary. The rest of Apple's products do things well.

The 'apps' are going to make or break this product. They've put the hardware in place, along with some nice software.

There simply aren't enough people who WON'T buy this for all the reasons everyone is writing about here. No flash is not a deal breaker for most people. No USB is not a deal breaker for most people. No removable battery is not a deal breaker for most people.

"Most people" is the point. This is a luxury consumer product from Apple. Not a professional Mac like many of us who read this forum buy.

I always thought the iPod touch was sort of dumb… but many less computer-savvy or tech-savvy people I know have bought and loved it.

It seems that their audience is the basic consumer. Not the professional user. Apple knows what they're doing. If you don't like it, buy another computer :/

Fanboy madness abounds...

So many excuses...Apple just doesn't like Adobe(or anyone, apparently) and doesn't want to deal with Flash. That is poor user support. It is prolific on the web right now and just ignoring it hurts the end user. Same thing with Blue Ray. Jobs just doesn't want to support it. It is totally acceptable for a user to want to be able to play their BD discs on their mac. He just doesn't want to deal with it. Apple has gotten so arrogant...

Ah well, hope they put out a new Mac Pro soon so I can continue to support this company in spite of how annoying they've become...

And where are Jef Raskin, Bill Atkinson and Burrell Smith now?

Steve is more than a marketing whiz, he's involved in everything. He took a company that was facing bankruptcy and turned it into a $50 billion company in 10 years.

I really hope Flash goes by the wayside, on my 17' Early 2009 MBP every time Flash crashes (~once a week) it takes every browser I have with it unless I completely restart. Relaunching/using a different browser/log out doesn't solve it, and it's absolutely annoying.

Hear hear!

Amen...amen.

Apple has reached critical mass with Jobs. He is too hands on, almost maniacal, that is why there has been no innovation on the "Macintosh" computer side. He focuses on one thing at a time becaouse he does not properly delegate.

He has also been too concerned about increasing the bank account balance and accommodating the music/movie industry, screwing Apple customers in the process. How is it possible Amazon and others offer better quality, DRM free music for FAR LESS $ than the giant iTunes store? Why don't we have the option of Blu-Ray yet? Why don't we have HDMI on Mac's "dated" video cards? Exactly what is the compelling reason to by Apple Mac hardware for a premium price? Why are we asked to pay even more for Apple Care when 3 years warranty is now a PC industry standard? Mac users have been paying a premium while getting less and less in return.

To me, only Mac OS is compelling, narrowly so at the moment. Yes, Snow Leopard is 64 bit now. So what? Apple has made little effort in working with developers to bring more 64B apps to the platform. In fact, it has done little to further develop its own software in the past few years.

The reason the iPhone has succeeded is because that has been his focus, and he has done well. All the while the Mac has been neglected. The mac Mini is pathetic at the current price point. The Mac Pro has only gotten a new processor slapped in every 12-16 months. The only ones getting decent (not great) updates, albeit once a year, are the iMac and the laptops.

Jobs critical mass is running out of momentum. More and more Mac users are getting frustrated with the products, or lack there of, Apple is producing. "Do less for far more $" seems to be the new motto. Hell, even the iApps have been stagnant for a long time now. Once again, Apple seems to be squandering a great opportunity to grow and stay competitive. It will not take much for consumers and Wall Street to become disenchanted with the "new" Apple, as it has in the past.

After 20+ years using Macs exclusively, and a fortune, I am seriously considering switching to Windows. Bugs or not, there at least I can do whatever the hell I want for far less $. I am tired of Apple trying to tell me what I need/don't need. Those choices are for us and us alone to make.

So let me get this straight.

Steve Jobs needs to leave because Apple has neglected the Mac except for :

iMac
Laptops
iPhone

So you're actually saying he needs to leave because he hasn't done much for :

Mac Mini
Mac Pro.

So which is it?

He has done nothing or he has done a lot.

And during this time of doom for Apple there is new technology on all of them. Multi-Touch. Environmentally safe computers.

Now Dell,HP and others are beginning to follow this trend.

Do you know what PC's. PC's! would be like had Steve Jobs NOT done what he has done ?

There would be NO touch screen cell phones for the masses.

There would be NO multi-touch for any computer. The HP Touch Smart "All-in-one PC would not exist. ANDROID would not exist.

I think you are really underestimating what Steve Jobs has been doing for computing.

Wrong. Without freedom, without alternatives, developers get lazy because they know people will buy their sh*t anyways.

too much freedom leads to crap. cause folks can do whatever seems like a good idea at the time.

restriction and folks have to think first.

prime example: Michael Bay. folks give this guy tons of money to do what he wants and we end up with movies that are nothing but tons of FX and Megan Fox's tits and ass. no decent plot, no decent dialogue. just FX porn and cleavage.

which hey for the male geeks on this board would probably be fine, so long as you could play it on bluray on your MBP so you can count the freckles. but a lot of folks would rather that budget was cut back and he had to actually develop a real script to be complimented by the rest.

best read I'd done in a while is actually the 180 of Mr Bay and his huge budget. Little tome called Rebel Without a Crew. pretty amazing what a few thousand well placed dollars and some real thinking pulled off.

Keep Waiting. :p

Why is steve not doing anything about crossfire for mac pros? OpenCL is now out, hes been talking about tapping into the power of the graphics card when all cards now support crossfire and SLI. Whats so difficult about it and why is it being held back? Its almost as stupid as not having multitasking on iphones and ipads.

"WAS". They haven't made a significant upgrade, while their competitors, mainly Google have surpassed them in some respects and almost equaled them in others. The iPad is so weak that their competitors have no doubt already come up with a superior alternative. Apple set the bar too low.

If it were truly about stability, they would block it from Safari on OS X as well, but instead, they've made it so Flash crashes independently of the browser

Yes exactly, so when Flash crashes it doesn't take Safari with it.

You just invalidated your own argument. Nice work.

My favorite thing about the Droids is that users always claim they are either as good, or better than an iPhone, and can't name one thing it does better.

Um, here's a few things Android does better than the iPhone:

1) Multitasking
2) System-wide voice search
3) A decent Gmail app with "actual" push Gmail
4) More phones on more networks = more choice for consumers
5) User swappable batteries
6) Like it or not, a more open app ecosystem. We have Google Voice, do you? ;)
7) Adobe and Google have gone on record saying Flash is coming to the Android platform. Sure, HTML5 might be better, but in the meantime I'll be more than happy to watch Hulu on my Droid while you run one app at a time on your iPhone.

Granted, Apple could add several of these to the next version of the iPhone, and I hope they do, because it's unfortunate such a great device is limited in so many ways. And until Hulu and YouTube make a complete move to HTML5, Flash is the way to go.
