Alternate title: The Importance of Voting even when your party consists of about 17 people statewide.

Really. Is it even possible to have one week without us being Daily Show fodder?

And it's not just looney Republicans around here, either.

Alvin Greene is unemployed, raised absolutely no money, somehow won the Democratic nomination, and will face off against Jim DeMint in November.

Oh. And then there's that nice little felony obscenity charge.

Folks - I will never ever neglect to vote in a primary again. :(

However, in a bit of good news.. there is virtually no chance of Airplane Andre being our next governor.

It'll be Nikki, assuming one of her alleged boyfriends does not come up with candid photographs... wink wink, nudge nudge, say no more...

What I don't get is her response along the lines of "If proof I had an affair emerges, then I'll resign"

That may be the strangest response to an alleged affair I've seen. It sounds like she's saying that she had an affair but won't step aside unless somebody can prove it.

    From Wikipedia:
The Democratic Party in SC is in shambles.

So are the Republicans! - there's a lot of infighting around here. Nobody in the State senate or house has ever really cared for Sanford. The Upstate hates the Lowcountry. The Midlands hate the Piedmont. Yeah.

The Republicans just happen to have one fairly large advantage around here... they keep getting elected. Putting an "R" next your name pretty much guarantees you 60% of the vote in most of the state.

Oddly enough, Charleston is one of the most moderate areas in the state. Greenville and Spartanburg are the most conservative.

How in the hell did this Greene guy win the nomination?

You have my deepest sympathies. Your choice this fall will be him or Jim DeMint.

'S'matter, Gomer Pyle and Bill the Cat were unavailable?

How could you not vote for Gomer?

Yay! The SC Democratic Contingent (I don't think there are enough members to qualify it as a "Party") asked Mr. Greene to Withdraw!

    Boo! He said no.

So he faces up to 5 years in prison for showing photos to somebody?

Must've been some real nasty photos, in that case.

The one thing Greene has going for him is military service - three years in the Air Force. Of course, he was apparently forced out for some reason.

I think at this point, the only way for Jim DeMint to lose would be to get photographed in a full embrace with President Obama. And even then, it would still be a close race.

Oh! his competitor in the primary - Vic Rawl - now isn't exactly sure he wants to run in Greene's place should he drop out.

Best case scenario - the SC Dems chalk this up as a "rebuilding year" in the senate race and just sort of rest on their laurels.

I should probably clarify that I am in no way a fan of Senator DeMint.

With the way the Dems imploded in SC it would take an upset of Biblical proportions for DeMint to lose this race.

I still think a random draw from the phone book would be good and South Carolina is perfect for this philosophy.

That couldn't hurt. All of the really nasty people have already been elected.

I can't figure out for the life of me why Howard Dean was eased out of the head spot in the Democratic party. His "50 State Strategy" worked in 2006, finding and building up good Democratic candidates in states where Democrats usually hadn't won. I haven't seen anything of the sort from Tim Kaine...and I think the SC Democratic race is emblematic of that.
