A friend of mine has something strange happening on her MacBook Pro with macOS 10.14.6.

Her user name is Paxxxja. There is also a second user "macuser" which is never being used. Paxxxja, macuser, and Guest User are the only users in System Preferences / Users & Groups and Paxxxja is the Current User. However, in the Users folder is not only Paxxxja but also "Paxxxja 1" and this "Paxxxja 1" is apparently the active user. See attached screen shot.

It is possible to access all documents in both Paxxxja and Paxxxja 1 (but not in macuser. as is should be), and the two user folders are almost but not completely identical. Some things that are in Paxxxja are missing in Paxxxja 1, and some things that are in Paxxxja 1 are missing in Paxxxja.

Can anybody explain what might have happened here? The computer is new. She had another MacBook before and the data from the old computer had been transferred to the new computer with Migration Assistant. I don't really know what's going on here, especially since it is possible to access the data from both the Paxxxja and the Paxxxja 1 folders.

Thanks,
desertman

What she did was create a user on the new machine before using the Migration Assistant. The transfer she made then transferred her old user name to the new computer and that's the reason for the two user names. Just have her copy the missing data to the user name she wants to keep, log on with that user name, and then remove the dupe user. Just make sure she understands to check all her data so that everything is under the user name she wants to keep.
