I have received an email from an unknown person. The email is not addressed to me yet I have received it. The sending and receiving email is the same as if I’d sent it to myself. But I have not sent this nor do I know the person sending it.
Any ideas? Any one had this before?

Thanks in advance for any advice

Sounds like someone might be spoofing some email addresses/headers (usually something that can sometimes be used for spam/scam purposes).

Yup, understood. But why am I receiving it? It’s as if I sent it to myself. How can the receiver address be spoofed?

I suspect you have been copied or more likely bcc'd into the email and the mail application isnt showing those fields.

The receiver address isn't spoofed - it actually was addressed to your email address. There's no need to explain the many ways spammers can obtain email addresses.

The sender (From) address is spoofed ("spoofing" is hiding the actual address of the sender).

Viewing the mail headers will reveal how this was done. iOS Mail app doesn't allow for viewing mail headers, but you can view mail headers in Mac or Windows (and possibly in third-party iOS mail apps).

Unfortunately an all too common occurrence. Usual rules apply. Don't open anything you're not sure the origin of, change your password regularly, use a strong password. Create a "junk" email account that you can use on sites that require an email for entry or use.
