Crazy question folks, but can anyone tell me the physical dimensions of the 21" and 27" iMac boxes? i.e. Not the actual Mac itself, but the cardboard box the whole package comes in.

I'm going to the States in December and want to bring back either a MBP (which I would take home as hand luggage) or, if the size of an iMac isn't too big, possibly a 21" or 27" iMac, but the physical size of the box will be crucial.

My return flight is from Washington to Hearhrow (first class), but I have an internal flights from Florida to Washington first, then another internal flight from London to Glasgow, which means the iMac will probably have to go in my hold luggage for the return leg.

My 27" iMac came in a 31x6x26 in. box, or so Fedex reported.

You'd still be asked to pay VAT upon re-entry, no? (Assuming that's the reason you wish to purchase abroad)

There's an import duty exemption amount (£135 per person), but in all the years I've travelled, and all the items I've purchased abroad (iPads, iPods, clothes, shoes, jewellery), I've never once been stopped or asked to pay import duty. They're not after people like us, they're after people who habitually bring home truckloads of gear and sell them on for profit.
