That's rather spooky, and goes beyond even the secretiveness that John Dean described in his book "Worse than Watergate". Exactly what are these people doing that they don't want us to know about?
Now. IJ is becoming a really bad influence around here. I'd just come from one of his horrid pun-laden threads, and the first thing that caught my eye was your topic, "Suit Decries New Secrecy in Government".
Having been put into a warped frame of mind by IJ awful jokes, when I read your thread title, the first thing my mind's eye envisioned was:
You're killin' me here, IJ!!
This thread was tailor made for puns.
Yes, I do strive to be a pernicious influence. Thank you for noticing.
Now don't you start!!
Anyway, that comment was made as an aside. I don't really want to derail zimv's topic.
you are all making baby jesus cry.
Okay, I'll stop needling him.
You're sew kind.
This thread is coming loose at the seams.
Just ripping what we sew.
I'm a man of the cloth.
That's in material.
In tweed it is.
One has to ask...are these "invisible" people -- 900,000+ of them -- doing things that the Bush administration wouldn't want to see made public? Are they interrogating or torturing "enemy combatants"? Are they manipulating the media, here or in Iraq (or both)? Are they making back-door deals with the oil companies, the media giants, and God knows who else? Are they spying on innocent citizens?
I mean, this administration thinks that 9/11 gave them pretty much a blank check to do whatever the hell they want, moral or legal or not. There's not much I wouldn't put past them...especially with employees who aren't on the "official" payroll.
