Subject says it all. I haven't seen it mentioned yet, so I thought I would post it up.

The SuperDrive Firmware Update delivers updated SuperDrive firmware to improve reliability when accessing DVD and CD media.

Systems:

- Power Mac G5 (June 2004)
- Power Mac G5 (Late 2004)
- eMac (USB 2.0)

do i need this? i flashed my 117D to a 108 w/ region free/12x dvd-rip firmware. (emac usb2)

Maybe. But the "flashed my..." has forever put you in a place where the update will not recognize the drive.

If you didn't have problems before, don't worry about it.

Not seeing it in 10.3.9.....

Is it jsut not in software update yet..?

EDIT: Hmmm i DL the update and was told i do not need it.

I have the SONY DVD RW DW-U21A drive.

I have this coming up in software update as well. Maybe it will unlock the dual layer capabilities in my crippled drive. HA! :D

Watch out, folks - friend of mine just informed me, he installed this firmware update and afterwards, his Superdrive NO LONGER reads all the DVD+Rs that he burned WITH THAT SAME DRIVE. Upon contacting Apple tech support, he was told that his superdrive (he has a Dual 2.0 G5, bought it when that was the "middle" model of the G5s) was never originally supposed to support DVD+R anyway, so they couldn't help him.

Not nice. I have a dual 2.5, bought it just a few months before my friend got his, and you couldn't pay me to install this update after hearing his story.

The update is not needed on the Dual 2.5. If I remember right, a while ago it appeared as an software update - I ran the update after installing Tiger on my dual 2.5 and it said that the update was not required.

This update does not make your drive Dual Layer but it read and write both Plus and Minus Formats.

Here is the details of my drive

Oooh help

I think I may be in the midst of this problem right now. I have a DP2 G5 with the pioneer 106D 4x DVD writer in it and I suddenly cannot open some brands of DVD, such as Shintaro. I used to use Shintaro all the time, and have heaps of stuff on them. I never had a problem untill this week. I blame the update to 10.3.9.

Can someone advise me on what to do?
