Switchin audio sources

I don't even know if this is possible.

Example:
I listen through Windows Media Player to a radio station and want to cut to iTunes to listen to music as I would in my car when commercials come on. This requires cutting the volume on WMP and clicking on iTunes and starting a song.

Is there a "function key level" applescript or other software solution to switch between software audio sources on my desktop?

Is that clear?
