    Enjoyable piece in Rolling Stone:

But the conclusion is buried in the first page:

    Sound familiar? And Rand Paul:

    Vote in November.

Only if all the Tea Party candidates lose.

If you're a fan of dark comedy.

This Tea Party saga won't fully play out until after the 2012 presidential election.

We shouldn't underestimate the anger of white folk who feel like they've lost their God-given privilege.

It's only going to get uglier.

There is a morbid joy in it if Tea Party candidates win too. At least for me who's on the outside.

Had I been a US citizen though, not so much...

Isn't it nice being protected in your sweet little Scandinavian socialist paradise!

    How I envy you. :(

Which privilege would that be? The God-given privelige to not have a black man running the country? ;)

The Tea Party is a launching pad for American extremists but they will be swallowed up by the Republicans, they have no choice.

NYT Magazine has a piece called Being Glenn Beck. It's a long article, at ten pages but very illuminating. I can't help but feel that part of his "Being" is paranoia from a couple of decades of smoking pot. The guy is wound so tight the only possible outcome is his imminent implosion.

Those principles and values are making money and making money. The guy is a media whore like Palin. He's not interested in the good of the country, only his own media (wh?)aura.

Beck is also all doom and gloom. Similar to all the imminent nuclear doom types in the 70s. At some point, America will want to go back to hearing something positive, not his constant negativity.

Black? He is a product of miscegenation. How can we allow that in the representative of the whole of America? Lest the rest of the world accuse us of tolerance.

I question how many of these tea party candidates were genuine to begin with. Most seem like rank and file Republicans who are seizing the label as an opportunity for office.

That's exactly what 95% of them are. You have to give the Republicans credit though, they are brilliant marketers.

@BV, thanks for posting it. A very good read.

What is the classic definition of marketing, "Convincing the audience that they need to impress people they don't like by spending money the don't have on things they don't want" ?

Anyone but me find it funny/ironic the FIVE POINTs that the author pointed out?

I loves me some Matt Taibbi, just for broad brushes with some laughs. Who can stand in the way of someone who can turn a phrase like:

I had never heard of him, thanks for the link and info. I might have to subscribe to RS just for these types of articles.

Matt Taibbi is hilarious. You should check out his book "The Great Derangement." He's a fulsome, furious writer who carries his biases like a shield.

RS has been doing some brilliant political reporting. Taibbi is one of the writers there, but he's not the only one who's writing immense political pieces there. Remember, it was the RS article about General McChrystal and his staff ("The Runaway General") that ultimately resulted in McChrystal's resignation earlier this year.

Taibbi has a great political blog that I highly recommend adding to your RSS reader. His in-depth pieces make the subscription to RS worth it, but the blog is good too.

    Good read, thank you.

    And thank you, too.

The ignorance of Americans in following these Tea Party idiots is truly astounding. (Well, maybe not totally astounding.) They hear some sociopathic, manipulative politician say, "Hey, I've got a good idea on how to save the patient: let's amputate the head!" and they say, "Sounds good to me!"

Here's another (not from Taibbi) that made me chuckle:

White America Has Lost Its Mind

Read it through. Amusing, but sobering.

I didn't find it amusing at all. I found it disgusting. Because it's true. Except the writer seems to have mistaken the word "white" for the word "right." As in "Right(wing) America has lost its mind."

Any implication that all whites think one way, is, of course, racist and ridiculous.

^ Thought it was pretty tongue in cheek, but then I try not to get hung up about labels and tribalism.

I concur with you. If I'm getting offended by an article like that, it's probably because I don't like the fact that it's true.
