From the guardian newspaper in the UK

It appears that the former Taliban ambassador to Pakistan, Abdul Salam Zaeef has become a fan of modern technology, particularly the Apple iPhone.

Zaeef, who reconciled with the Afghan government after being released from US custody, says he uses his iPhone to surf the internet and find difficult locations, employing the built-in GPS. He even checks his bank account balance online.

"It's easy and modern and I love it," Zaeef said as he pinched and pulled his fingers across the iPhone's touch screen last week. "This is necessary in the world today. People want to progress."

Zaeef says that the Taliban themselves are now embracing modern Taleban technology.

er um I bet he aint downloading any weather apps as I believe they banned weather forecasts as they were trying to second guess Gods will. ;)

Luckily Bush isn't still in charge because Apple would have been bombed.

Ambassadors are not leaders. They are simply go betweens, high ranking messengers and spokespeople and have no true power.

When did the former Taliban ambassador to Pakistan -- who is now reconciled with the Afghan government, per the article -- become the Taliban leader?

It definitely would give new meaning to the "remote wipe" feature.

He is a former ambassador and has already been jailed by the US, why do we have to go kill him too?

They might use the iPhone but I'm sure they still sync their music library of Kid Rock, Nickelback, David Hasselhoff and Bass Hunter on their favourite Dell workstations running Vista

They probably have they're own set of apps too.

    iNfidel tracker.

    and the ever popular

iMartyr. The all on one solution to put you in touch with that all important suicide bomber, where-ever you are, when ever you, 24 hours a day to the exact GPS location of your choosing.

There's nothing wrong with a harmless, tongue in cheek comment about President Bush given the circumstances.

Any comment about George W Bush is also relevant to when his father was in office. Same war in the gulf, same looking for weapons of mass destruction they sold to Iraq in the first place... I know I'm English and this is only an observation, I'm not an American voter but I never liked the idea of a fundamentalist Christian from a state with the death penalty in charge of a nuclear superpower that has a huge influence on the actions of our own government.

Oh I agree, but when the hatred spills into a thread that makes no mention of the man, and Es feels that the only thing he/she has to contribute to the conversation is some specious claim that our former president would have bombed an american business on american soil because a terrorist used one of their products, that's when it gets tiresome.

Much of what Es posts even now, is crap like this. And I for one am tired of it, let's keep on topic people, and while we're there, let's make sure to tell the truth, not waste bandwidth with an incessant need to make baseless claims about a man who no longer has any sort of power what-so-ever.

That is, unless Es would like to provide a link to a credible source to back up the claim (as per forum rules) :D
