Crossed fingers for Kim Rhodes, that she wins a medal in her sixth Olympiad. A Bronze, a Silver and three Golds, so far.

I'm amazed how little interest the Olympics has in this forum. Is it not followed in the States?

NBC destroyed the Olympics. Almost everything shown on tape, too many commercials, too long human interest stories on competitors, too may commercials, too many human interest stories on competitors, too many commercials, hardly any live events, rinse, repeat.

We must be lucky as we have the BBC and they don't have advert breaks. The coverage here is excellent and the whole event seems to unite the nation. It helps too that we are doing pretty well of course lol.

I am sure the BBC coverage is better but not liking the fact that they ignore some events. However, discovered that I can get live coverage of literally everything available on the BBC sport web site and use chromecast to get it to my TV.

I watched all the cycling yesterday without the opinions and the breaks to other things like tennis.

Comment related to Rio games. Hope Solo sore looser with her stupid comments after the game.

The BBC have the 'red button' feature which gives you access to pretty much every live event. The main coverage of course focuses on British interests but we want that.

Honestly, the Olympics really aren't that interesting. A few scattered events here and there are somewhat entertaining but the major 4 sports are what people care about here. Football, baseball, basketball and hockey are what matter.

The problem is that there are too many events and sports, many of which are simply boring. There isn't enough at stake either. A medal? Great but....why do we care again? National pride? I guess but even that doesn't hold enough weight to make most people care. Just doesn't matter. People have better things to do than to watch swimming. Yawn.

I like the olympics because it exposes us to different sports that we don't normally see.

Your post does make sense though and explains why football and international motorsports struggle to get a following there.

And what is at stake in an american rugby game ? Some obscure title awarded to a bunch of millionaires casted from anywhere but the town they represent.

Last night I watched womens beach volleyball ;) and team table tennis. Quite refreshing seeing athlets compete for the sport itself instead of that next 100000000€ contract.

That's just on NBC though right? You can watch plenty of live events with very few human interest stories and commercials on the cable stations.
