Hilarious. Unfortunately, the quote is not attributed to Gore but one of the woman's friends. Too bad as it ruins the joke.

    Well

As much as I despise smarmy Mr Gore, this whole thing is starting to reek like a media-circus circle jerk. Everything will be highly publicized, over -exaggerated, and in the end, this will probably end up vanishing into the night.

A few too many of the claims the masseuse presented are a tad, fantastic, for lack of a better word.

Especially the part where she claims Gore wanted to play the Pink song about GWB....

Added 'by friend', don't think it ruins the joke however. In fact that is why I thought it so funny in the first place. Who are these friends?

I though it would have been funnier if Gore himself had allegedly made the comment. Its surprising how a man who has largely been absent from the political scene for nearly 6 years now can still stir up so much media attention.

Oil Spill --> Energy bill --> the right trying to discredit global warming --> Al Gore is smarmy, thus you can't believe the vast majority of scientists --> the data is a hoax!

What in the name of God has Gore done to incur such bitterness from the right wing?

I just want to know how Gore talks dirty. It must be the most boring foreplay ever.

My primary guess would be that nobody likes having religion shoved down their throats.

Many on this forum have testified about what that feels like.

Is there anything you won't label a region?

Science is religion? Interesting take. You may disagree with the conclusion that man is to blame for the higher CO2 levels, but you cannot argue that math, science, and measurements are something akin to belief in a religion.

    Not religion...

Its not a religion, more of a societal phenomenon IMO.

I am all for conserving, protecting nature, etc, but if I hear the term "Go green" or any of its nasty bastard derivatives again I might just vomit.

    Hmmm, good question

Are facts a religion? Not necessarily, I am not completely sure but I think 1=1 is not a religion.

Could someone's interpretation of facts be its own religion? Probably not.

When you use your interpretation of facts to convert others to your way of thinking, and then they too spread your interpretation as gospel throughout the world. Distributing pamphlets and videos and using fear to goad the masses into action. Ultimately, for the purpose of having the world accept your agenda and make you very rich?

Yes, that one gets the religion label for sure.

So to answer your question. Yes, there are things I won't label a religion.

So, a vast majority of scientists have been studying the climate for years, and started to realize some strange changes appeared to be occuring. Over the course of time, it becomes apparent that the temperature is not going down, it is going up, and lengthy studies verify increasing planetary temperatures. At the same time, CO2 levels are going up at an unnatural rate since the industrial revolution. Comparing temperatures and CO2 levels in tree studies and geological studies, shows relationships between temperature and greenhouse gasses.

Those are the facts. The scientists come to the conclusion that CO2 emissions are abnormally increasing greenhouse gasses, and thus recommend reducing CO2 emissions. Politicians, like Al Gore, and others try to convince the public to support the recommendations of the scientists. That effort includes typical methods, pamphlets, movies, whatever.

Rich? Are you against Americans and American companies getting rich? Do you want all of our money to be shipped to the Middle East?

Business advertising = Goading with Fear?

    Maybe for some:

    Volvo
    Mercedes
    Lysol

    But not for others:

    McDonalds
    Volkswagen
    Pampers

    okay, maybe not pampers

But there are other things that are often missing from most corporations that are present in religious movements:

    • Gathers funds not for exchange of goods and services but for fear or the consequences if you don't (Cap and Trade)
    • Charismatic leaders that spreads the message (Gore)
    • Tenets and driving doctrine that contain a powerful motivating message, but are untestable by any of the subjects (Man's output of CO2 will lead to destruction)
    • Extreme sense of betrayal and guilt cast upon the members if they try to leave the movement (Gore's massage therapist and 'friends')
    • Regular campaigns that seem to increase the misery that will fall upon any and all unbelievers (Gore's movie)
    • Charismatic leader involved in sordid sex scandal

I don't think you have to have all of these attributes for me to consider that organization a religion.

Have some corporations had enough of these attributes to fit the religion moniker??, I would imagine so.

First off this is wrong. How many climatologists do you know? I know that at least 31,000 disagree with "Global Warming". link

Seriously? Over what "lengthy" amount of time? The Earth is reported at being about 4 billion years old. What's the longest study so far? Looks like humans have only been keeping track of temperature consistantly since the 1880s and on since 1960 do we have reliable numbers. Increasing temperatures as compared to what? What's normal? How do you prove that? link

Greenhouse gasses huh? Tell me what is the largest percentage of greenhouse gasses? What percentage of greenhouse gasses is CO2?

    Your "facts" are wrong.

CO@ is only 0.038% of all greenhouse gasses, in case your wondering.
