"A new law went into effect in Texas on Monday that allows certain students to bring guns into classrooms, with supporters saying it could prevent mass shootings and critics saying the measure will endanger safety on campuses.

The so-called state "campus carry" law allows people 21 and older with a concealed handgun license to carry pistols in classrooms and buildings throughout public colleges, including the University of Texas system, one of the nation's largest with an enrollment of more than 214,000 students.

The law allows private colleges to opt out, and most of the state's best-known private universities have done so, saying the measure runs counter to protecting student safety. "There are so many students battling the stress of campus. Some are unstable and we don't know who has a gun," said Dang."

Nor a good combo for the good guy protecting classmates/professors when you have police entering who are unsure of the situation and who is who.

Are there Taps in the classroom now? Man, I went to the wrong college.
You're correct it's much better to allow the lunatic to slaughter until the police come.

This story is about carrying in the classroom. While is not impossible, it is unlikely that alcohol is present in the classroom.

I am more worried about the good guy slaughtering since that has been the case in over 80% of the mass shootings.

I can see a lot of potential issues with this. And believe me, I've seen my fair share of students drunk/still drunk in class.

I assume this also applies to living in dorms? Cause that's where I imagine most of the issues talking place.

If the same person can carry about town I don't see how it changes this person when he carries in class.

I agree. My college (Baylor in Waco, TX) allowed student to bring their guns to campus with them. If you lived on campus it had to be stored at the campus police office, but could be "checked out" at any time.

With my binoculars, I want to see a bar full of armed drunk patrons when a fight breaks out. The sad thing is this is not a panacea for bad guys with guns. I don't believe most average citizens are mentally equipped to launch into a gun fight. You are going to be looking at collateral damage. And just who the police supposed to shoot when facing a room full of guns?

In Texas, you cannot carry a firearm into a business that does at least 51% of their revenue from alcohol sales. Therefore, no bar full of people carrying guns.

And I'm sure all of the gun carry advocates hearing the calls to ignore the signs, will obey the law.

Stories like this just further reinforce the fact America is nowhere near as free as it professes to be.
