I'm just watching this film for the 1st time.

    http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6030443037963555139

It's got all three; politics, religion, and social issues. :) I'm not sure what to think about all o fit. Certainly large segments ring very true. Especially the parts about human being and many parts about the political landscape we find ourselves living in the affect of. The religion part I'm not so sre - it seems too simplistic.

What are your thoughts (any part)?

i haven't seen it all (yet).
a few interesting bits and a lot of truly ridonkulous stuff.
(not to mention the purely made-up stuff about DNA)

do they explain Lost at the end of it? i might hold off the last 5 minutes not to spoil the ending....

By "eviscerates" do you mean a splices a bunch of cynical logical fallacies and ad hominem attacks that would only appeal to someone who has failed science and doesn't even have a rudimentary understanding of climate change?

But that doesn't mean that if Al Gore can be discredited that it will simultaneously disprove climate change science does it?

I watched and wondered right up to the point where he said the word "holocaust" was Yiddish.

    1+1+1+1+1+1+1=1, or so it seems.

Hehehe, yeah, that hit me in the face too. I looked up a bunch of stuff from that film as I watched it. The etymology of the term holocaust was one of them.

There IS a lot of crap in that film but some of it is not so bad I think.

    Don't panic,
You sure about that DNA stuff not being accurate? I have no idea myself but I've heard this from maybe 5 different sources in the past 6 years or so.

    MotleyPete,
I consider your image post rude, and combative. Please remove it. Thanks man!

    Watched 'til fluoride bit.
OMG, everything that can be linked must be linked only one way; there is only one Universal truth to explain everything. If it's not religion, money, sex, or aliens, it's probably a conspiracy.
AND OMG I bet you can find a six-degree of separation at the level of the powerful at any time, in any system (and I bet Kevin Bacon is behind every one of them).
OMG, the world is going to end........probably on a Tues.
(BTW, taking odd bits of dialogue and facts out of context is not the best way to convince me of anything).

yes, i am sure. without trying to appear pretentious, that's what i do for a living so i believe i know what i am talking about.

i have skimmed through some parts of the movie, so there might be some parts that i have not seen that might not be incorrect, but the parts that i have seen ('physical' emotional resonance, ions taking up the shape of DNA in its absence and other similarly ludicrous stuff) are beyond being 'not accurate'.

Me walking to the Moon with my wife to have a picnic with brie-de-maux and sauterne, is not accurate.

these sound more like an acid trip (as suggested by the late 60s clip).

i don't feel like going through the whole thing again, but if you want to point to some specific sections (by time) i can give you my take on the specifics.
also i would be genuinely interested to know what/where you heard similar claims from.

You wouldn't be any different that the other bozos in this thread. :D The Critiquing abilities here are like being in 3rd grade. :p

OK, Thanks for that! No, I don't need other specifics. Those were the parts I was asking about. And thanks for being one of the few people here to not act like an a$$! It's appreciated - even though it shouldn't have to be this way.

I tried for you, buddy. I really did. I get it my best shot.

I lasted a little longer than you. I lasted up 'till about 26 minutes. Right up until they said that Socialism is when the government own all of your things.

''for those of you who are unaware of what it means when a government owns everything of yours... it is called Socialsm''.

Yeah, I can understand your frustration. I think it's an extrapolated meaning. I think what is being said is that Collectivism usually starts out as socialism but all too often turns into communism. Communism is actually a form of socialism you know - so is Naziism BTW.

So socialism starts out by "shareing the wealth". How does it go:
"From each according to his ability to each according to his needs"
But in a large society (scale of the USA or even 1/2 that) there are too many people who don't want to play nice and certainly don't want to play like that. So arbitration and confiscation comes into play. I think we can all agree that most politicians are corrupt greedy individuals that would sell their grandmothers for power or for a buck. When men like this become in charge of the arbitration and confiscation it is the same thing as "...when a government owns everything of yours... it is called Socialsm''.

    Don't you agree?

I think you think too much. What is being said is what I quoted. What he said is wrong.

Firstly, I really don't need to be told about socialism. Secondly, that has absolutely no relevance. You can have all sorts of socialism. You can have Republican Socialism, Libertarian Socialism, Fascist Socialism... whatever you like. It makes no difference to this.

    No, it doesn't.

How does what go? Karl Marx said that. It has no relevance to what has been said by this utter buffoon that has made this video.

Splendid assertion. It'd be more suited to insertion.

I don't think we all can, actually.

    No, I bloody well don't.

However, none of this has anything to do with what was said. He said that "...when a government owns everything of yours... it is called Socialsm'', that isn't just false, it is stupid. You do yourself a disservice by trying to defend (and ultimately make things up in a 'what I think he was saying is...' style) this utter garbage.

Based on your reply I wouldn't agree at all. You might be familiar with one working form of it or something - doubtful (N. Ireland...) - but certainly a possibility. ;)

Being a life long Socialist, I don't really need you to agree with me to feel safe in my own knowledge. Even if I hadn't been a Socialist then God knows I've studied enough to know a bit about it.

You're just one in a long line of American's on this board that don't have the first idea what Socialism actually is. When you, even for a second, tried to back up claims that Socialism is when the government owns all your stuff, then it was obvious that you've not got the first idea what you're talking about. Although, that wasn't much of a shock considering the vast amount of hokum that you've posted on this forum over the last few days.
