So I received this message when trying to restore my friend's 2g iTouch... I read the other post regarding this error message, and how you are supposed to put the ipod into DFU mode so you can then restore it, but I did this a couple of times, and I got a different error message, with the number this time being 1601.

I downloaded the iPod iTouch 2g 2.2.1 Firmware from a reliable site, so I am thinking maybe it is because it is an older firmware, and no longer works? I was able to download it, and it came directly from Apple, so maybe not.

Any help or advice would be appreciated, thanks.

:D

What software version did you friend have on his iPod Touch prior to the problems?

Does you friend want to use 3.1.2, or does he want to go back to 2.2.1. If he want 3.1.2 then you will obviously need to download the relevant software from here.

If he wants to use 2.2.1, then I guess some sort of Jailbreaking will be required as he has installed 3.x.x previously (I think).
