This is just deliberate provocation, there is nothing else that can describe this. It's just so unnecessary and will cost lives on both sides of the divide.

Say what you will about Trump but at least he wants to build his wall in his country and not down the middle of someone elses.

Unfortunately nothing can be done short of war or an total economic blockade, Israel will never make peace voluntarily. Why would they would want a solution when the USA allows them to keep eating the pizza during negotiations.

It seems the Israelis have taken with them the prejudice of their European origins. This is horrible, theft is theft. We can't criticise Russia for annexing the Crimea (which we absolutely should) without firmly condemning this blatant land-grab by Israel. I support the existence of Israel, and the defence relationship between the US and Israel, but this move by the Israeli parliament is insane and is bound to bite both Israel and the US on the a$$. Dumb. WTF?

The settlements must stop. But this is why Obama abstained from that last UN vote, which got everyone so upset. Trump promised he would support it, so Bebe moved on, and then Trump pulled the rug out from under him. Which is fine by me.

Illegal land theft and illegal occupations should stop. They should be sanctioned and boycotted until they comply. Netanyahu wants Iran to be sanctioned at the UN for what Netanyahu views as violations of international law by Iran while he tells everyone that they are anti-Semitic if they punish or sanction Israel. The hypocrisy by Netanyahu and his right wing extremist government party that he formed is nothing but hypocritical as usual.

As usual many red lines have been crossed

Sanctions and Boycotts should be in place until they comply and two states are recognized living in peace side by side. Without sanctions and boycotts as they continue to get Billions of Dollars every year in aid they will continue to commit more crimes and break more international laws.

Regardless of whether Israelis land grabbing is technically legal or not, it's just stupid behavior if they wish to attain some semblance of peaceful relations. Whether it's technically legal or not, it is certainly wrong at this point in the game.

“If you like your house in the middle of a warzone you can keep your house in the middle of a warzone.”

Looks like Trump has people so distracted that the pro-Israel people haven’t had the time to run in here and reflexively defend this action.

Well you know Germany won't be the one leading the charge on sanctions.

Agreed it's a mess and it becomes harder to sympathize with Israel when they take actions indisputably against their own best long term interests. Might makes right is a terrible moral standard to adopt, especially within the frame of their own historical persecution.

Today we have Trump in power who believes that taking something from others is right and ok provided that in his own mind he finds if justifiable. So here we have two leaders that believe theft from others is ok. You have to be the chosen ones though to be able to steal and take from others.

There were never real negotiations, it has all been a show. I'm at a point right now that I just don't care because I know there is no peaceful solution, it's too upsetting to even think about for me. One day the conflict will end in a bloody mess, I just cant see a good outcome.

I would love to see a 1 sate solution but it will never work. Even if the Palestinians and Israelis kissed and made up, outside forces would sabotage it and the 2 state solution is DOA because of facts on the ground. This conflict will end with one side being a loser, possible both sides.

It should be noted that this is the conservative/right in Israel doing this. There is a liberal/left in Israel, while not a majority, that does not support these actions.

That is true but these things do not pass without someone with some major power and influence in place that OK's laws like this. They pretty much set up their own government parties and whom would vote against their party or leader after..?

When Russia does something similar they immediately get sanctions slapped on them. Where are the sanctions for Israel? UN speaks out.

It's different for a number of reasons: (1) Some conservative Israeli leaders believe Israel (or the jewish people) has a legitimate claim on this land going back to biblical time, far before the UK colony was broken up that set up the current cluster-cluck situation - whether or not you agree with their claim and that it is proper to go so far back in time, there is in fact historical evidence to back it up; (2) Israel is the only functioning democracy in the middle east, the US and its allies sort of have their hands tied with this one in that they can't not support the only functional democracy in the whole region; (3) Israel imports a lot of US products and buys the services of many US firms, so they in effect paying for our support; (4) Israel has a very powerful and insanely loyal military, probably the best in the world at this point but for relatively small size; (5) Putin does more than just take land, he also murders those who dissent in the press or in the government, among other international crimes.

OK dude. I put my bet on the scrawny Jewish shepherd boy with a slingshot. And you put your bet on that huge battle-scarred Philistine warrior-giant.

    Let's see who wins.
