Makes you wonder how the vibe of this computer would be different if the whole enclosure was black instead of just the well area of the keyboard?

Perhaps the black would fade like my 16" MacBook Pro has done?

And maybe that's why the black in the keyboard area is double anodized. In lieu of my experience with space gray, I've ordered a 14" in silver. But I want to see this computer all black. Maybe it looks like crap but I think it would be 🔥!

Having experience in the watch industry, the most durable black ‚coating‘ is diamond-like carbon (DLC), which gives additional hardness to the surfaces.

It is however still susceptible to wear, particularly at edges such as the ones on the case circumference, where even DLC would eventually wear off.Chris cannot be refinished.

Hence I guess Apple‘s choice of not offering a deep black case is a sensible one.
