I think in the coming years we're going to see social media and all this nonsense ******** be treated as cigarettes are now. We haven't quite adapted to/figured out how to handle these new platforms and haven't built self-defense mechanisms to defend against this stuff.

If you have a twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, or any similar account you should delete it for your health and for your time. For most other things just log out, delete it from your favorites bar, and whenever you get the urge to check something, consciously remind yourself that it's a waste of time, and doesn't add value and go build something, walk outside, read a book, cook, or even clean.

Only when you step back from these addictive platforms, and let's not kid ourselves these are addictive, can you truly begin to see the scope of the addiction and how badly it is affecting your lives. Anything less than complete removal is like an alcoholic saying they'll only drink one beer a day.

Think about it every time someone argues that some rich person "earned" their place.

    Really?

EDIT: Wait...is this sarcasm in response to the OP's post in other thread?

    I agree it's very addicting!

The problem is, people online are finding others more and more in common with them in terms of interests than they do in the surrounding neighborhood. Hence why MR and other Forums flourish, bring like minded interests in the same place.

All my life I've wondered what it is about people who get all excited about fads of whatever sort. For all that I enjoy social interactions, they're not some sort of be-all end-all in my life. Never have been. And I never have really understood the importance of People's magazine.

I'm happy for this little ol' gal if she makes a bunch of money, but it won't be coming from my pocket. :)

In red describes my thoughts on sports. Even the ones I used to like have been ruined.

Yeah, well, for me it depends on the particular sport. I like to watch car racing since I used to be a sports car racer (Life begins at 180 :)). I like to watch college football. An occasional boxing match is okay. The rest? Meh. And I despise TV shows about sports--which gets back to fads.

I don't know man. Out of the bottom four I would only want my kids to look up to Tesla.

Mr. Elon Musk is missing from that bottom row!

And yes, each day the US surprises me with their level of ignorance and retardness.

I was in a discussion, recently, about the egregious plethora of Derp. We finally achieved a sort of consensus as to a possible solution.

Med schools should institute a Minor in Derpetology. Graduate derpetologists could make a good income from performing derpedectomies, avoiding the occupying of Mommy's basement while earning a good income and helping society.

The clearest example of the utter level of imbecility in the United States is the fact that Donald J. Trump is currently in residence at the White House.

Do you really want Trump having control over that.

I dunno, vrDrew. Hard to bottom the mess we've gotten into courtesy of LBJ's unGreat Society. Trump's nothing more than a rejection of business as usual by "The system". Producers are fed up with being mulcted by drones.
