I'm curious to see what kind of trade-in and monthly payment deals carriers end up offering. Obviously it locks you in for years, but if companies are offering a grand off with a trade in, that can get the monthly down to $65 or so. I bet that'll get a lot of folks to make the jump that would otherwise balk at a $2500 phone.
I do a lot of international travel, so my plan is to pair a cheap phone with a Mini, but I'm really looking forward to seeing what Apple does here. I have a feeling this is gonna sell like crazy.

I've been holding on to my iPhone 13 mini for dear life, but I went and tested the Samsung Z Fold 8 in person and I was able to actually use it one handed. I'll probably only use it unfolded like 2% of the time lol, I just want a new mini

I am not sure I am really interested in this phone, especially at the rumored price point. However, an issue that is not usually addressed is the support for wireless charging and MagSafe using existing chargers. I suspect that even if this phone does support MagSafe (and the rumors suggest it may not) it will not fit on some charging stations. It is not even certain that it will support Qi charging, which, without MagSafe becomes a pain to use, almost as inconvenient as using a USB charging cable to charge it. Overall a small issue but increases friction when adopting the phone.
On top of this, the rumored lack of support for Face ID is likely to be an issue, especially for my wife where Touch ID does not work and never has. I can see that there may need to whole new range of accessories needed to make this phone work in your ecosystem. That will need to be factored into the already high rumored purchase cost.
Altogether, the design of this phone may abandon some convenience features that have made the iPhone an easy phone to adopt. I am glad we may have the option, but like the Air, in order to achieve the form factor there may be too many compromises.

I'm in. I've had 3 different Samsung flip phones and they all had problems with the crease. Bubbles, cracks, and other problems. It's worth the risk and I trust Apple. I'll get AppleCare plus or course. Express replacements make it worth it. What's life without a few gambles?
After trying out the Fold 8 in a Samsung store I am now 100% sold.
I was so surprised to find the size and shape of the cover screen to be ergonomically better than a normal phone screen. At least for my hands.

It’s not as big as an iPad, you could only justify for iPad mini usages, and an iPad mini with like a base iPhone will cost half the price, hard to justify the doubled price…

lol - I already did. Retirement + fixed income + price knocked me out of the fray early on. But in the old days, when I had "income", I may have jumped aboard. I just got off of a 2-1/2 year affair with a Motorola RAZR Folder, and it was very high quality. If Moto folders are built so well, imagine what Apple can do!

I will be purchasing next year when iPhone 20th anniversary launches. That way I can refresh all of my general devices for a long term run.
I will be upgrading my iPad Mini 7 to Mini 8 , iPhone 17e -> 20th anniversary, and getting the iPhone Ultra as well.
That way I can start everything with 0 charge cycles. I wont be buying anything again for awhile I am not a fan of incremental upgrades. This will be another EOL run for me.
I plan to use the Ultra at home, replacing use of my iPhone and iPad Mini for general tasks, and then when I am out and about, will be equipped with the 20th anniversary iPhone and iPad mini 8.

It will be interesting to see if there is ever a phone that adopts the folded form factor of this Samsung fold 8 but is in fact a non folding phone. This new aspect ratio looks to be ergonomic and we could escape the current candy bar shape. This would be an interesting option that people might like. A lot of people seem to like using the folded Samsung Fold 8 and not be that interested in unfolding it.

Im like 80% passport sized phones have been my favorite and by far are the most ergonomic to type on (I purchased blackberry passport, the unihertz titan II, etc) will likely get this too.
Non starter for me, I have no use case to justify that kind of price.
