Live on Comedy Central and online.

The music at the beginning bored me a bit, to be truthful, but the Mythbusters guys are freaking hilarious. They're measuring how long it takes to do The Wave from the front of the rally to the back. That's 150,000 people (by their estimate). There are so many people there, it took over 50 seconds.

Do you mean 150k people total? I hope there's more. I had quite high hopes for high participation numbers :(

    Maybe we'll find out.

Jon is having Samantha Bee go through the crowd...and they're going to count off! :p :p :p

That's pretty good. Its as big as the tea party one at the end of August I'd have thought (unless their estimating is really bad).

CBS had some kind of company that does crowd estimates do a flyover of the Beck rally, and they estimated 87,000. That's the number I've been hearing ever since.

Stewart had a really funny comment at the beginning, though. He said as he looked out at the crowd, it was obvious to him that there were at least ten million people there.

Cat Stevens singing Peace Train interrupted by Ozzy singing Crazy Train interrupted by the O'Jays singing Love Train. Priceless.

I would have preferred that they let Cat actually finish his song... then let Ozzy sing his song... then let the O'Jays sing their song.

Sometimes comedy gets in the way of a good time.

    Comedy was a little forced.

    But comedy sometimes is.

Yeah but I'm assuming that the 150k figure is a little optimistic too ;) - in reality 100k ish is probably the likely figure.

Sure the comedy is forced but it is also an acquired taste. Some of the bits didn't hit their mark but Comedy Central really dropped some money into it to make the quality and musical acts worth it.

For political satire it was well done. It didn't take itself too serious although there was some seriousness in it.

I was a little surprised that C-Span took the feed.

Yeah, they did a nice job. Anybody who thought the rally would be partisan was bound to be disappointed. And Jon's speech at the end was great.

:D No, but USA Today has a nice, comprehensive blog post about it.

The comments underneath, however, are obviously from people who didn't learn a thing today.

Yeah, that's one of the reasons I'm impressed - getting people out for a moderate non-partisan rally is hard. Its much easier to get people to support a partisan cause.

Additionally that its done by a couple of TV shows makes it more impressive too.

The President's inauguration isn't really on the same level as this. That is for a public office, where this and Beck's events were on the same level as King's 'I Have a Dream' speech. Compare the numbers of this to the numbers of Beck's and King's for a decent comparison.

Speaking of TV...for my money, this was easily the best sign at the rally. :p

I only managed to watch Stewart's speech at the end, I thought it was great.

The spin from this event will be outstanding.

I'm making popcorn, with real butter, so stay tuned.
