It seemed odd that they went more width and less height on the 12 max but I just realised why. Watching videos and stretching them to full screen was always a trade off. You got the full screen being used but some of the actors head was often chopped off. Now though, when you stretch to full screen, only a teeny bit of the tip of the video is clipped.

Agreed. I have absolutely hated the trend that Android OEMs set to make screens more narrow, I am glad Apple continues to keep iPhones wider, it makes more sense.

Compared to which phone? Pretty sure the 12PM has the same aspect ratio as all other Face ID iPhones. When watching video, you should see the same area of the content as the 11PM (apart from the slight increase from the bigger notch 'ears').

I’m sure what you’re comparing it to, but compared to the 11 pro max the screen on the 12 pro max is both slightly higher and slightly wider. However they have the same 19.5:9 aspect ratio, so stretching videos to full screen will result in exactly the same amount being cut off on both phones.

Been playing around with my 12 Pro Max and I was afraid I wasn’t going to like the size coming from an X but so far I’m having a blast! 😁
I can even type with one hand without the keyboard modification (maybe my hands are big?).

As to the aspect ratio, I definitely noticed a difference when watching videos. My X definitely cut a lot more of the image!

So far the only downside is that there isn’t Force Touch anymore and I used that on the daily to bring my cursor to where I want it and now I have to actually touch the place I want it to be which is a bummer but oh well.

I do wish Apple would allow us to have more icons per screen. It looks kinda silly to have so much black space between icons and the bottom row and the dock.. Kinda like a kids or senior phone lol..

Me to. It drives me nuts. Also, although it doesn't really bug me in the same way, I do wonder whether the 12 Pro Max could get slightly more status info to the left and right of the notch vs other iPhones.

I do understand why there is no more info content on screen for most 3rd party apps when going between Pro and Pro Max (for instance) because of the use of scaling to ensure compatibility across all iPhones but the home screen on each device is 100% under the control of Apple so it would be entirely possible to do different custom layouts for each iPhone model to give maximum information content for every screen size.

You can long press on the space bar to get essentially the same ‘touchpad on the keyboard’ effect now. That was about the only force touch feature that I regularly used and it took me a little while to get used to the long press on the space bar, but it works nearly as well.

That’s it! I just discovered it by accident while trying out different keyboard apps but no need to! Thank you 👌🏻

That's great news!! I also can't stand the narrow tall phone trend. It makes no sense.
