I had an extremely stressful, yet interesting time with UPS this week. I figured I would share it with you guys as you might find it very interesting.

I, like many of you, preordered my Apple Watch on 4/10/15 at 3AM EST. I ordered a 38MM SS BSB watch, and added a 38MM SS Link Bracelet separately.

I received my watch on launch day. Last week my bracelet went into the shipping phase. It was set to be delivered to me in Mobile, AL on Friday, May 8th (my 21st birthday was May 7th ).

Well, for my birthday.. I was planning to leave May 7th and head to Tallahassee, FL for a League of Legends event called the Mid-Season Invitational.

Once I noticed my band was coming the next day and realizing I wouldn't be home for it, I had UPS hold it for pickup for Friday and decided I would just leave an day late. I planned on getting the package when UPS opened and immediately head to Florida.

Friday May 8th, 2015

I get packed, and while I'm packing, I get a call from my local UPS. They said they have my package ready to be picked up. I drive 30 minutes out of the way to the distribution center where it was held. I get there, wait in line for 30 minutes. When I get to the counter, I give them my ID and tracking number. The lady goes to grab my package.

15 minutes later, she comes back and says they are looking for it, but are unable to find it. I proceed to wait while they look for it for almost 3 hours. At this point, I'm extremely behind schedule and starting to worry I'll miss the League event I bought tickets for.

They take my number and say they'll call me if something comes up. I'm furious at this point. We immediately started a missing package investigation with UPS/Apple. Apple was very nice about this.

2 hours into my trip, when I'm 130 miles from home now, I get a call from a random local number, I assumed it was UPS.

Guy on phone: "Hello, is this (my name here)"

Me: "Yes, how can I help you?"

Guy: "This is (his name), I work at NAPA Auto Parts in (location 45 minutes from my house), I have a package with your name on it for an Apple Watch.
"
Me: *Currently freaking out* Asked him if I could call back and see if a relative could go get it from him for me.

My father was able to get it after making a long drive to this store.

So in summary, UPS gave my package to the wrong people with no signature, no ID, nothing. The package still shows its at the UPS location but missing.

I contacted Apple and they said since UPS failed to obtain a signature, thus failing to fulfill their shipping agreement, that UPS would be billed for the full price of the watch band, so Apple gets reimbursed.

Apple is issuing me a refund since in the system I never technically received my band. I get to keep the band and I get my money back to compensate for all my time/effort.

I will never use UPS again if I can help it.

I've only used the Link Bracelet for 24 hours.. and the only 2 bands I've worn/seen in person is the black sport band, and the link..

but a view observations:

  • The band looks great in person
  • It's not hard to resize, but its harder to get the links apart than it is to get a band off the watch. This might just take some getting used it
  • It's surprisingly light and well built

I'm very happy with it, however.. if I didn't get that refund already, I probably would have returned it. It's super nice, but I'm not sure it's $490 after tax nice. Especially with the Milanese Loop being $150 and also looking extremely sharp.

It's our UPS. (I'm in Mobile, too - nice to know there are two of us with an :apple:Watch here!) I've had any number of things like this happen.

My favorite was when UPS delivered a package of mine (residential delivery) to a business address on a major street. I tracked down the driver and supervisor and let them know I was aware of their GPS system. That's when the driver admitted he'd delivered the package, but had no clue where he'd left it.

Hey neighbor! Yeah, I live near Theodore and drove out to the hub in Whistler, AL. They gave it to an auto parts store in the ghetto. The middle of Prichard, AL.

I can't believe I got it back.

I think you are spot on about is the band really $450 nice. I got the link band as well, and I am very excited for it. BUT with that said on all try ons of the band, I've found myself feeling a little disappointed it doesn't feel a little bit more expensive (if that makes sense).

Before this, I didn't wear a watch.. So I have little experience with the differences between cheap bands and expensive bands. This one is very nice.. But now that my preorder hype has died some.. I'm not sure if I'd pay basically an iPads price for a band alone.

I like the way you put that... The only way I could justify it was if I could move the link band to the second or hopefully third generation Watch. That's a lot of money for a band that's going to get scratched and abused.

From looking at the different band dimensions, it's noticeably smaller than the case itself. I could see Apple making thinner Apple Watch's that will easily still support the current bands.

I'm pretty sure the 2nd gen watch will be compatible with these bands.

Congratulations!

My husband's link band is still MIA.

UPS were supposed to deliver it on Friday, 5/8.

They never did. The UPS guy was even over here to deliver another package and looked all over the place for the package from Apple and had no luck. He hoped it was on another truck. It was not.

UPS actually had the balls to tell me all the way up until 11:30PM on a Friday night that it was still "out on a truck for delivery." I had to point out that it wasn't Christmas so I thought this was not likely.

After midnight, they shifted my order to "On time, delivering Monday, 5/11"

No kidding.

I called them again, thoroughly outraged, and they swore it should be delivered. I asked them how, since the notes had been altered to change my watch from 5/8 at 8:12AM Out for delivery to 5/8 at 8:12 AM Destination Scan.

Nope. They didn't know where it was and they altered their records to avoid looking like they lost a package.

I escalated at Apple and with UPS.

Apple emailed me on Saturday with the wonderful news that my package was on time and that UPS was delivering it Monday.

I called them back to tell them that UPS were altering their shipping logs. I was furious by this point.

They said they would be sending me another one IF the one from Friday didn't show up today. It hasn't shown up today.

I knew it would not, just on gut instinct, but also because the dispatch from the local UPS hub called me this AM to ask what was in the box because they could not find it. My regular driver didn't have it on his truck today.

I called Apple back. They stuck to the 'if it doesn't ship today..." line. I was irate with them by that point.

I called the dispatch back and they told me to give Apple their number and have them call to confirm that it was lost.

I called Apple back. They finally agreed to escalate again with notes regarding the fact that UPS dispatch said it was lost.

The item still shows up by the tracking number as Out for delivery today, 5/11. It has, however, vanished from UPS MyChoice entirely.

My shipping window for this delivery was 4/29-5/12. I'm angry that Apple trusted UPS and ignored the evidence I had that this was supposed to deliver on Friday and that it was already lost (I had my UPS MyChoice email with the tracking number and the day/time of delivery for the item).

I guess I'll have to wait and see what happens with this order and what Apple does or doesn't do in the way of good customer service because this is a load of BS.

They said they'd ship quickly through another carrier (tomorrow, because they keep clinging to this false assumption that the band is in the hands of UPS when it clearly is not), but having to call UPS and Apple this many times to try to get merchandise that I paid for and was already charged for 7 days ago is ridiculous.

I doubt they'll be gifting me with a freebie link band, so props to you sir.

I'm glad someone got a good deal after all that hassle!

:)

I made a post on here Friday mid-rage while I was sitting in the UPS office.. I remember you commenting on it that day saying yours was MIA. I hope everything works out for you. :(

Apple offered to send me a replacement band also.. And I know I could sell it on eBay for a good bit of profit.. But I opted for a refund so the 2nd band could go to someone that wants it at normal price.

Thanks, man. I am really glad those guys at NAPA were honest and gave you your merchandise.

Enjoy it. It's free. Free stuff is great! :)

Email Tim Cook, this is unacceptable.

After tomorrow, I may.

Not even because they'll miss the shipping deadline. Because I'm having to deal with UPS falsifying records and Apple Support believing them when I have rock-solid proof to the contrary.

Report back here with what happens. I'm hoping it works out for you and would like to know.
