Here's hoping it was just a nut job and not a Turkish State actor. No Article 5 please.

According to what he was screaming, he was a Syrian islamist, he wanted revenge for Aleppo.

The shooting was filmed live on Turkish TV, and Putin will certainly not ignore this.

Yep, Italian newspapers report that he shouted: "God is great, we die in Aleppo, you die here. Pig."

Sad, and this is going to cause many, many issues.

EDIT: Italian news report that he had an Ankara Police badge.

He also threw up a trademark one-fingered Islamic State gesture.

Given that that mess was largely the fault of the current savvy dip in the White House, the new one can hardly do worse trying to clean up the last guy's mess.

Yep, this could possibly collapse the entire situation.
I read that Putin is now meeting his advisers on the issue.

If he was an Islamic extremist, then it would seem to me there's less pressure on Turkey. They may be responsible for the security aspect of the attack, but not so much the cause of the attack. As Russia is well aware of the danger of Islamic extremism, I doubt they'd retaliate against Turkey, as they need to Turkey to help hold down that extremism.

Everything Trump has touched has been made worse. Don't underestimate his ability to make a bad thing worse.

I have seen a few tweets on Twitter by those from the region suggesting that this Turkish officer was recruited by CIA/Mossad. Let’s recall what former CIA Director Michael Morell said this year:

Morell: “We need to make the Russians pay a price.”

Rose: “We make them pay the price by—killing Russians?”

Morell: “Yes [...] covertly. So you don’t tell the world about it; you don’t stand up at the Pentagon and say ‘we did this.’ But you make sure they know it in Moscow.”

This would be a stupid way of doing it. Very stupid, and Russia would not play the game.

Obama was STUPID enough to go on TV to make threats against Russia.

Not really since Turkey has been aiming at Aleppo (and parts of Iraq) for a while.
Russia will probably claim that Erdogan's administration is pushing anti-Russian feelings with the aim at destabilizing Syria, and that the murder of an ambassador (live on TV) is an unforgivable act as it is an assault to international order.

Yeah, that was surprisingly stupid, especially since he's lameduck.

Well, after an election dominated by things that people "saw on facebook", or "read on twitter", I think it would be wise to stop for a minute and reflect on the improbable veracity of a tweet that lays such accusations thirty minutes after the fact. Unless we want to give Alex Jones that pleasure, that is.
