I can completely see this happening where I work...too many idiots who know nothing about IT that are in charge of IT.

And unfortunately I am under those idiots :/

That's why you use Mac ;) (And specifically, not Windows)

    Nooo! Then I wouldn't have a job!

I support Windows, Mac and Linux environments for a living. Linux and Mac pretty much don't ever need to be touched, but Windows keeps me busy all day.

but how many users do you have on each environment. I expect linux is a server and servers rarely are touch and if there are users lets face it linux generally know what they are doing.

It still blows my mind how much people pay to keep up Windows environments. I know a lot of people like Windows (and I depend on it for a living) but the cost of supporting it is substantial.

I've worked in a lot of different places (some even with more Mac than Windows) and its the same everywhere. Even if you adjust for user base Windows always requires a lot more support.

Pointy hair? Do you ever try to mess with him, or is it too risky?

Where I am (a UK university) the response to hacking and malware attacks has been to increasingly constrain what we are allowed to do with our computers. Want to view your iMac screen on an iPad? Nope. Want to use your iPhone as the mic for Dragon Dicate? Nope. etc. etc. etc.

Pretty soon we'll just have to turn off the machines and unplug them entirely - that way we are completely secure.
