If you order one from Apple itself, will it be Samsung? (LG is the bad version right?)

Its still a lottery.

Bad version depends on your POV. Many pros like the LG color, clarity, and uniformity better and are disappointed when they get a Samsung. A few LG SA1s suffered from IR, which will get repaired under warranty. You can try to color calibrate to adjust colors closer.

My BTO ordered directly from apple and shipped from China a couple months ago is an LG SA2. Dunno what they are shipping now, probably whatever they have on hand.

I just received mine yesterday from macmall. It's the 15in with 2.7ghz, 16gb and 750hd. It has a Samsung display. However it is a late 2012 model with number starting with Z0.

Did some research into the model numbers and the Z means it was upgraded at the factory. So I take this as meaning it was built to order or it was an older model that was upgraded.

IDK, but the price was right at $499 off and no sales tax, so about $900 less than buying from apple store.

Very happy with it, very nice machine.

I have a 2012 BTO 15" that I got on 4 December 2012 and it has an LG SA1 screen. I've been using it every day since and no sign of IR or any other defects to report. It's been a fantastic screen and computer.

What's actually the good and the bad between LG and Samsung displays and how can you tell them apart if you got your retina?
