I have already returned 2 8 Pluses for uneven tints. One was red at the bottom, yellow at the top on white screens. The other red on the left and right sides and yellow in the middle.

Do you get used to it? Will I eventually just forget about it or will it bug me for as long as I have the phone?

I did not notice anything like this on my 6 Plus.

The way I see, is there's no such thing as a perfect phone. If you look for imperfections, you will find them. But in your case, if they stand out noticeably, then take advantage of the return period. After all, it is your money you're spending and you do want results.

I agree with Power. Do not look for imperfections as you will find them. Enjoy what you have while you have it. :)

you bought a plus for the screen. if the screen isn't up to standards, return it. it's not like these screens are new technology.

I’ve gotten plenty of perfect screens-in fact, that’s all I’ll settle for for. I wouldn’t keep it. Most units don’t have these issues with screen inconsistencies.

I’ve seen 5 iPhone 8 Plus’ now. All had some uniformity issue with the brightness or tint.

It’s about finding one you can live with, not finding a perfect screen. There isn’t one with LCD technology....and judging by the other threads here, there isn’t one on OLED screens either.

I've grown to live with it on my 8 plus. I had three 8 pluses sitting in front on me at one point and every one had screen uniformity issues. I chose the best one and that was it.
I generally don't see it any more but from time to time I catch it again.

I'll give you my take on it. I've gone through 5 iPhone 7s and returned all of them due to these display issues. I then went around looking at display models in stores whenever I could and found 95% of them had these issues as well. I have only found one or two absolutely perfect displays.

I then recently got a iPhone 8. I thought it was a perfect display until I found something with it. The bottom is warmer. Most iPhone 8s I've seen have these issues. I found a absolutely perfect iPhone 8+ on display yesterday but it literally had visible dust under the screen.

I am not sure about getting used to these but then I really want to. Both my parents have a iPhone 7 and both have uneven tints and they just don't notice it. I pointed it out to them and they just couldn't tell.

You can try this if you are interested in seeing it :

1. Turn off true tone. EDIT : Actually works with true tone on too.

2. Open safari. Open google.com

3. Rotate phone to the left so the earpiece speaker is on the left and charging port on the right.

4. Compare the grey areas marked in the screenshot on your screen. They are slightly different for me. The left side is slightly bluish grey vs the yellowish grey at the edge near the home button. Its a subtle difference as if the bottom half of the screen is slightly warmer.

https://i.imgur.com/oyxG6ug.jpg (compare these areas of your own screen. the image is for illustration purposes only)

If you think this is because of transparency, you may try it with gboard or swiftkey because they have white themes with no transparency.

I personally think it may have to do with the screen being top lit. I tried this on mine, dads and mom's iphone. All are same.

We have 2 iPhone 8 Pluses in our household - both have non-uniform screens.

The first has a dark corner in the top right with a dark blue vertical right edge top to bottom. This leads to as yellow to blue tint shift left to right which is very distracting when reading. The second phone (my phone) has really uniform brightness edge to edge which is great. However the lower half of the screen is warmer / yellower than the top half. Turning TrueTone on excerbates the issue but overall I prefer leaving TT on as it keeps the screen mostly white in all ambient light conditions.

Does this p!ss me off on a £949 phone?....yes of course it does. I want a uniform screen. Will I get one?....probably not. I went thought 4 iPhone 6S Pluses before I gave up. The one I ended up with was the least sheet out of all of them.

Whilst I’m tempted to swap it, chances are I’ll get one with different problems and I really can’t be arsed with the hassle again. Part of me wans to move to the iPhone X but after seeing all the threads on this forum, they seem to have their own uniformity issues.

Best advise I can give, lower your expectations with the screens with these phones. Unless its really bad, keep it and enjoy.

Never. Keep exchanging phones until you have it right. With all the money you pay for an Apple iPhone, settle for nothing less than perfect. If you don't, someone else out there certainly is enjoying a non-unevenly tinted phone. People have said sometimes the tint goes away with some use. If it doesn't go away within Apple's return period, then you know what to do.

Agree with this. Few are perfect, but find one you can live with. I would not accept an LCD screen with an obvious yellow or red area that makes the screen uneven. If you notice it every time you look at the phone and are unhappy with it, I would return it. After 3 tries I kept a 2016 rMBP that has a slight pink to blue shift across the screen that is barely noticeable during use and I really don't notice it anymore as it is subtle, but I've returned other devices that have tints I am unhappy with.

Well said. I went through so many iPhone 7s too. but I am just really curious what exactly is it about apple's display that cause it to be this way? Cheaper phones like Moto have perfect display in terms of evenness.

Some countries dont allow returning iPhones or exchanging them unless there are glaring defects.

Whilst the principle is correct, have you ever done this? It’s extremely time consuming and stressful not to mention the pain of trying to juggle all the money going in/out of accounts & credit cards.

I know it sounds stupid but this buy/examine/return/repeat can lead to a lot of heartache and disappointment with iPhones.

Don’t chase a perfect screen, there isn’t one. Find one you can live with and enjoy your purchase.

If you’re the sort of person who is sensitive to screen uniformity, take advantage of Apple’s generous return policy by buying 2 of what you want and keeping the best one.

Not only that its extremely disappointing and taxing mentally when you go through the hassle of returning and then you open your third phone - and it turns out to be the worst one you have.

Then I wouldn't get an iPhone if I lived in a country like that if their quality was that bad...

Yes. The worst I've had to deal with is 2 times. It's inconvenient, but with all the money your paying it's worth it. My first X has no issues, if it did, I would exchange.

I know a lot of people have, but I have never had a screen issue on an iPhone. This could potentially be because I am not looking for them though.

I think for most (me included), you don’t look for it. It’s just there in normal everyday use.

As I type this on my iPhone 8 Plus, the keyboard at the bottom of the screen is warmer / yellower than the rest of the screen.

I sort of kinda stopped giving **** today. I was looking at my screen and actively trying to look at the uneveness and i just felt so pathetic that I was doing it. How obsessed I was getting with a device that was supposed to make my life easier but not consume me in the worst way possible.

Not a single memeber in my family can notice the unevenness. Has anyone wondered that some people might be more prone to noticing these things?

Some people have better color discrimination and will see unevenness in screens where others may not. It's a mixed blessing. :) There are also others who see unevenness but are not bothered by it.
