I have a Series 4 Gold Stainless Steel 44mm and love the new materials, especially the regular Titanium and the Ceramic. I am torn between upgrading or not, and which case I should choose. Love both models, but concerned with potential scratching on the Titanium model. I have a Submariner that i wear to dress up but love wearing an AW for daily use especially since it helps keep me on time for meetings and othe events, and can quickly glance at my watch to understand all the important information I think is relevant for me. I also use it daily for my HIIT workouts. Appreciate any perspectives shared from others that have upgraded or chosen either Titanium or Ceramic and reasons for doing so!

Casing Material:
owned the S2,3 ceramic. S4 SBSS doesn't really do it for me but it was the one I liked most in the S4.
S5 Ceramic. I was going to go Ti dueto the depreciation the Ceramic has. But I like it more than the Ti

Yeah i figure that Ceramic is probably the way to go if your budget allows for it. With AOD and it's eye-catching and hardy material, means that it could probably last a good 3-5 years or longer and still function as a trendy watch longer after updates are no longer supported. And will probably still look good as new.

For me it’s the display .. I realize it’s still the same thing but in actuality it’s like when you switch from an iPhone 8 to a 10 it’s so much more convenient plus the ability to use any band with any size is a great add on also .

AOD, but at this point not really impressed with it. Seems like I’m always flipping my wrist to brighten up the dim screen.

I have an SS S4 and got the natural Ti because of the material. AOD has never been a must have for me. I loved the look of the Ti but, returned it. It just wasn’t a great enough upgrade. Maybe next year.

I’m not actually upgrading but AOD has prompted me to buy the S5, without it I would still not have a watch - not that I’ve missed not wearing one for the past 20 years.

Upgrading from S2 but I would say AOD was the main driver since I got SBSS S5.

I think Ti and the comeback of ceramic are nice additions to the line up that many people will love but personally I prefer the look and feel of steel.

Edit: Funny how compass is not even one of the reason to upgrade :p

None of the above Per the OP thread title. I upgrade every year, simply because I want to. The ‘always on display’ was not a selling point for me, but I just like having the latest devices. It’s a strange, yet fun addiction.

I normally upgrade every year - for S0, S2 & S3 I had stainless (silver for the first 2 then black for the S3). With S4 I went Aluminium as I was fed up with losing £££ every year. Just didn't feel right. From the moment I had it I was waiting for a S5 so I could go back to stainless. With hindsight, if I had got a stainless S4 I probably would have skipped this upgrade.

In my usage Aluminium may work for some, but it isn't for me. I have decided that I will skip the S6 though.

Well that is what I have told the wife :)

AOD and i regretted not getting a S4 Cellular/SS model.

Yeah, I would recommend if someone was on the fence about the LTE model, purchase the LTE model, but if you don’t want to use it, you can just deactivate it. The downside if you have the GPS model (And later change your mind that you wanted LTE), then obviously you don’t have that option at all. But I find that some members actually don’t use LTE functionality right away when they purchase that model, but maybe later activate it finding it might be useful for their situation for those times when you don’t want to carry your phone.

LTE and case material were my motivations. The AOD didn’t hurt but wasn’t a main motivating factor. Had I bought the stainless LTE S4 originally, I wouldn’t have upgraded.

Aod makes it feel like a Watch. No twitch to see the time esp when laying down etc. Compass is cool always wanted it but don’t need it. I’ve always been intrigued by space age materials etc so those are my reasons. Otherwise the 4 is fine.

I sold my S4 2 weeks before S5 was announced thinking i would get it, but after a few weeks without one and using my Seiko divers all the time i didn't bother, not missing it at all really.
Can see how the AOD would be better, for me they are not robust enough they get marked/scratched up, also got sick of seeing other people wearing them, doesn't bother me with a phone for some reason but the apple watch does.
