Time machine question — recovery of specific files

    I just got a new Mac and I have a question regarding getting files off of my time machine backup from my previous Mac. I'd prefer to give my new Mac a clean install and just get specific school files for my classes and maybe a few other things than completely copy all my stuff (applications and all) to my new Mac.

    Is it possible after a clean install to connect to this old time machine and just grab a few files before wiping it and setting up as a time machine for my new computer?

    Yes you can do this. Take a look at the screenshot that I attached to see how to navigate through the backup folder scheme. Note that on the last step, you navigate to the "Latest" alias, which will open the correct date's folder for you. Once you can see Macintosh HD, your users folder is in MacHD>Users>Username.
