Good choice for the #2 POY.
I would have gone with K. But intention on not - I see what you did there with the 2/too
I'm apparently making jokes when I don't even mean to.
But I think it's obvious who the real POY was. Trump dominated the headlines and drove discussions virtually every day last year. If Time magazine's criteria is the "person" who had the most impact, then trump should have that cover.
I was hoping, like GQ, it would be Kapercrap and his famous Pig socks.
I was hoping to see Leeann Tweeden on the cover as well.
Agreed. But I can't help but like the FU to Trump on this one.
Why? She's had little influence over the course of the year - only in headlines recently and certainly only dominated them for about a week.
Media should stop assuming everybody follows Twitter or uses Facebook.
In regards to who? The Me Too movement was much bigger than (on) twitter. And Trump's tweets live and breath outside of twitter.
Like the RRHOF, it's just a room full of select editors that make the decision based on their personal opinions. I think we put too much stock into it.
The WHAT movement?
So I guess you don't participate in any social media (not just limited to Twitter and Facebook), any political forums, any news sites, TV broadcast or cable news via internet/cable/satellite, don't read newspapers, other news publications, listen to any talk radio, subscribe to any podcasts about current affairs?
I basically just watch news from several countries on TV and they never talked about such movement.
There’s some precedence for this if I recall. Wasn’t POY the “protesters” (collectively) in the year of the Arab spring and occupy wall street?
And yeah, I agree, it probably should have been Trump, but he’s more infamous than anything else, so I understand not making it him.
Not a bad choice.
I just wonder how they will treat this at the Oscars. For years they claimed that it was ok to discuss political and controversial issues (Trump included!) while giving away awards to Weinstein & co well knowing what he was doing.
Time made a good choice. So many major topics and events this year were impacted by the women and men that came forward. 45's whole agenda could be derailed by the women who came out against him and Moore.
The best part about this pick is that anyone who tries to minimize their impact just reinforces the point that they are making.
Trump brought attention to this, primed the cannon.
Winestine was the match.
And Trump added more powder.
For all its impact, #metoo is far from achieving the kind of success needed.
I predict in 2 years it will be back to "normal".
The most classic of Kafkatraps.
Time Names #MeToo (the silence breakers) as Person of the Year
I think a bigger FU would have been to make him POY and detail how disastrous his first year has been and what a POS he is.
Is one of the people on the cover one of drumpfs accusers ?
Because THAT would be priceless.
Person of the Year doesn't always mean they have a positive effect on society. That's always been the status quo of Time.
He wouldn't see past the cover.
Got some sexual predators to resign from congress so I think it's a good choice.
But yet you're defending those who are in the White House let alone someone running for Congress..
Gotta love that "picking a side and defending it to the death", even when you know they are wrong.
So... when are you going to call for Trump's resignation for him being the same type of predator?
