And the NFL just released a statement saying that they hadn't seen the video until today.

If is wasn't so pathetic, it would be funny.

So was swearinger! And for the first time in what seems like 3 or 4 seasons, their special teams came to play!

Also a shame about Clowney. Hopefully it's not quite as serious as they think and he gets back out onto the field sooner rather than later. That D Line was nasty yesterday.

And speak of nasty D Lines, how about those Jets! Geno looked shaky - hopefully next week his passes are a bit crisper. :D

Talk about a load of crap. The league knows everything and somehow they never saw the video?

Same with the Ravens. They're all full of BS.

I still can't believe they marched that woman out for a press conference and had HER apologize.

"I am sorry that my face ran into his fist and that my actions might cost the Ravens a shot at the playoffs this year. It won't happen again."

    ----------

So the DA in the Rice case saw the video but never brought it to trial, So who is more incompetent the NFL or the DA?

wow I am speechless after watching that video... what a horrible situation. I feel terrible for her first of all, after publicly making excuses for this Piece of ******..... Second of all with the power and the reach the NFL has there is no way they never saw this video until now. TMZ is a tiny blip on the radar compared to the juggernaut that the NFL is, give me a break!

This thing was mishandled from the beginning and they are scrambling to save face now. I'm sure they released that statement so they can now use that as an excuse to re-open the case.... If that leads to them doing the right thing and at minimum suspending this idiot for the whole year then I'm ok with it.

    That video is ****ing outrageous.

rdowns already covered my feelings about Ray Rice. Roger Goodell should resign immediately as well.

Did they release him because of the video or the backlash from the video. They didn't seem to care about it months ago.

I doubt it. He's made the owners more money, especially under the last CBA. He's not going anywhere.

Surprised the Ravens acted so quickly. Good move.

EDIT: Apparently, the CBA limited Ravens and NFL ability for secondary disciplinary action. Terminating the contract was only recourse.

They released him because the video went public and exposed their cover-up.

    Goodell still needs to resign.

He either knew about the video and lied/covered it up.

Or he didn't do his due diligence as commissioner in investigating this incident before handing down his decision.

Either way, he ****ed up big time and should resign immediately.

But Goodell was taking it from all sides today, the Ravens did him a favor by doing Goodell's job today. Even tho the Ravens should have done this months ago.

I think there are differing views.

According to some, the Ravens may not have seen the video. Apparently, there were people on the Ravens who thought that she attacked him and he was defending himself - and that was the only reason the team stood behind him. And once the video came out the players (and management) were ticked off that Rice lied to them.

I also read somewhere that the NFL may have lied to reporters about seeing the video. They were under the impression (maybe from Rice's girlfriend) that the video would actually back up his story - that she hit him first.

    What a colossal cluster fu**

While I understand the 'spin' that was given about her 'attacking him first' etc., there was no way to watch the 1st video and NOT know what went on in that elevator. The body language of Rice said it all.

Besides, I don't care if she attacked him with a switchblade and ninja stars, the guy is a pro football player... he can't subdue a young woman without punching her lights out and dragging her ass out of the elevator?

So TMZ was sitting on this full video and just released it this morning? Why did they wait so long to show it.

I don't think they were sitting on it, I think they 'obtained' it

    Goodell has suspended Rice indefinitely.

    ----------

They obtained it months ago. But only showed the back end of it.

Oh, you're definitely preaching to the choir.

I was disgusted by that Raven's tweet and press conference. And Goodell's suspension. The whole thing was awful from the beginning.

Either way, they didn't cut him because THEY saw the video. They cut him because WE saw the video.

Speculation is they didn't hold it. The casino, The Revel, just went out of business and it is thought an employee released it since he/she had nothing to lose.

Gutsy move by the Commish to extend Rice's suspension 'indefinitely' after Rice has his contract terminated and NO team was going to pick up the pariah

I don't understand why Ray Rice wasn't cut/suspended when we first heard about this incident. Now that people see the video, everyone just knee jerks to this conclusion. What did people expect? We obviously knew he punched her.

As others have said, I don't believe the NFL didn't see this video before. Just responding to the backlash, but I guess if the end result is good. Think he'll play in the NFL again?
