I thought id start a thread to group together what people think are the best "Ten minutes of film" list (give or take a few minutes).
No definite categories but I would assume there will be a lot of action sequences here.

Ill start off by posting the first ten minutes of
"Raiders of the Lost Ark". Its a mini story on its own and an excellent one at that.

The speeder races through the forest in "Return of the Jedi"

The "100 mile dash" from "The Incredibles"

    Any more suggestions?...

I remember seeing the Matrix for the first time and I was blown away in the first 10 minutes.

Blade Runner was pretty good in the beginning too.

    Casino Royale.

The section of Fight Club where Edward Norton's character makes his realization about Brad Pitt's character. I would give more details, but it's a pivotal part of the film/book, and I don't want to ruin it for people. :)

    Saving Private Ryan.

The storming of the beach scene of course. The most intense part is the section where the sound actually goes out and they follow Tom Hanks' daze and you still see all the action but are just wondering when the sound will come back in.

The opening scene in The Player. The opening scene is a single 8 minute long shot before the first cut, shooting in and out of conversations between characters, with extras and stars walking in and out almost constantly. To top it off one of the characters keeps droning on about the opening scene of Touch of Evil which was a long shot as well but only went for 3-5 minutes.

I can definitely say that the first action scene in Casino Royale is fantastic as well as the very last 5 seconds.

The flying arrow scene in Hero, as well as the fight scene in the rain with old guy strumming away. Both unbelievable sequences!

The party scene with creepy Robert Blake and Bill Pullman in David Lynch's Lost Highway. That's one of the scariest things I've ever seen.

the scene where jodi foster went through the wormhole and the distant galaxy in contact. i thought that was a great sequence and brought up alot of questions translating to the real world in some ways.

I also can't forget the scene in 2001: A Space Odyssey in which Dave Bowman enters the air lock, makes his way to HAL 9000's logic control center, and disables HAL's higher logic functions.

The last ten minutes of "The Fountain". Simply brilliant.

Also the sequence in "Children of Men" that is one continuous shot, trying to rescue the mother and baby.

They Live: Is that the one with Rowdy Roddy Piper? (If I can remember that far back) If so, that's also been classically remade with Timmah vs. Ji-Ji-Ji-Jimmy in South Park.

Saving Private Ryan beach landing scene. (Best opening scene in a movie)
Any of the fight scenes in the Bourne series.

    Shawshank Redemption

Possibly the best ending ever to a movie that is not an action movie, Shawshank Redemption.

Start where the prison bar door opens up so Red can face the probation board yet again, only certain to be rejected again. He gets parole after delivering one of the best monologues of all time and fulfills his promise to Andy to find what is under that volcanic glass near the big oak tree in Buxton.

    Phenomenal ending.

Yeah, that's exactly the scene I was talking about.

And yes, I knew South Park did a homage to it :D

Also, one I need to add:

The nude fight scene in Borat. As totally rude and obnoxious as it is, I must admit it was hilarious the first time I saw it...

The shorter, second half to Hot Fuzz.

Either the first or last 10 minutes to Leon. I mean the middle bit is fantastic too but the start and end are really concentrated moments of character and story.

What about the revelation scene in Usual Suspects? "Barber shop quartet from Skokie, Illinois." Granted, you need the rest of the movie to get it, but man, that realization after all the build up...
