So I remember a few years back after 9/11 when US airports upped their security had you had to go barefoot through every security check, but in Europe you could still wear shoes and have some personal dignity while going through security.

I know a lot has changed in Europe since the Madrid and London bombings and almost everywhere wants to make sure you have clean socks and feet in security checks, but making a guy remove his cartoon t-shirt has got to take the cake.

I'm so glad paranoia is contagious.;)

Meh, taking your shoes off is not particularly undignified. We all have a tendency to be egocentric and whine about everything we don't like to do, but taking your shoes off to go through a scanner is hardly some gross violation of propriety...

But the Transformers, come on, man, Optimus Prime saved Earth! Have some respect for what the Autobots have done for us all.

Tell that to the three toed man.
Maybe personal dignity was the wrong word - a pointless inconvenience may have been a better word choice.

And yeah, props to the autobots.

    @iJohn
Well with a name like Jayakody I'm surprised he didn't get a full cavity search to try and find the gun.:p

This is quite pathetic; I have a shirt where there's a picture of the Earth, a [X] in the corner with a mouse pointing on it; does that looks threatening?

How are chocolatey and terrorist related? I don't follow you. What does chocolatey refer to?

Your not referring to his skin color are you? I sure hope not.

I'm gonna guess that he means the color of someones skin tone, "chocolatey" referring to someone's who skin tone is dark.

If you need help beyond that, I may very well have to do a *facepalm*

Pointless inconvenience? You do know that a terrorist did try to blow up a plane with the explosives in his shoes, right?

I wish people would stop complaining about flying. Yeah, it is annoying to have to take off your shoes; blame the people using planes as weapons.

That said, the transformers shirt thing is ridiculous.

I wasn't complaining beforehand, just making an observation about my travels and security checks. But since you want a complaint here you go:
I feel so much safer that they now scan my flip flops and that security is so much better because of it.

No one ever said that the security is perfect, but there hasn't been an attack in the US since 9/11, so they must be doing something right.

I loved this misplaced anger. You are mad at the TSA (or someone, I don't really care who) when they are just trying to do their job. Be mad at the people that cause this heightened security.

Yea .. I assumed that was what he was referring to. I just wanted him to make his point clear instead of beating around the bush. It's wrong to make racist comments like this. How can he say that the person looks like a terrorist because of his skin color. This is VERY wrong. iJohnHenry should apologize!

I don't even know where you are coming up with misplaced anger and me complaining. I'm not even trying to blame anyone or be mad at anyone.

I think you should heed your own advice ^^^^^^^

This kind of "humor" should not be tolerated in my opinion.

    Doh, of course I was.

But it was with regard to airport paranoia.

I'm saying they think that the person looks like a terrorist because of his skin color.

    Did Hawkeye411 go to bed??

Too bad, 'cause I thought this might be apropos.

Further, we are both Canadians, and we don't "do" bigotry, usually.

I would be pleased to introduce him to hundreds of people, of all hues, that I have transported to treatment.

People like him piss me off.

    There, I said it. :p

I  me iJohnHenry, cuz he makes me look less cranky!

Seriously tho, he's dead on; making an observation, no matter how obvious and impartial, manages to offend the overly sensitive anymore.

So what's worse, the "crushing" of our civil liberties, or the thought police?

Sorry for driving this thread right into PRSI...
