On the campaign trail, Donald J. Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, has sold himself as a businessman who has made billions of dollars and is beholden to no one.

But an investigation by The New York Times into the financial maze of Mr. Trump’s real estate holdings in the United States reveals that companies he owns have at least $650 million in debt — twice the amount than can be gleaned from public filings he has made as part of his bid for the White House. The Times’s inquiry also found that Mr. Trump’s fortunes depend deeply on a wide array of financial backers, including one he has cited in attacks during his campaign.

For example, an office building on Avenue of the Americas in Manhattan, of which Mr. Trump is part owner, carries a $950 million loan. Among the lenders: the Bank of China, one of the largest banks in a country that Mr. Trump has railed against as an economic foe of the United States, and Goldman Sachs, a financial institution he has said controls Hillary Clinton, the Democratic nominee, after it paid her $675,000 in speaking fees.

Interesting read. Doesn't sound like big trouble - but given the wrong economic climate, he could stand to lose quite a bit.

But I'm not worried... I know he could settle for pennies on the dollar. He makes the best deals.

Yes I read this article too and wasn't surprised by its contents. But by its own admission things are hard to prove. Lots of these shadow companies may or may not also be owned by Trump or one of his kids.

The single most interesting point was just another example of his hypocrisy. The amount he owes the very banks he claims are distorting politics is hilarious.

    But the Trumpettes won't care.

    Trump isn't alone:

    http://www.cnbc.com/2016/05/20/companies-drowning-in-debt-despite-almost-2-trillion-in-cash.html

Some debt never hurts, as they say, but I doubt anyone can pin this by saying "low wages" with a straight face, since without people with wages and spending these companies would be far deeper in debt because nobody is spending - that type of miracle just does not exist nor can it...

Trump's ability to change people's lives, like that of the OP... that spends countless hours creating threads here to criticize Donald, is remarkable.

    Very revealing indeed.

Yes. It reveals that this is a political forum where people routinely start threads.

Have you mistaken PRSI for a charitable organization?

And this has what to do with Trump's finances? How desperate you look when this is the best you can do.

Remember that time when Trump sued someone for daring to write about his net worth? He lost the trial and he also lost the appeal. At trial, under oath, he said he tries to tell the truth about his net worth. That should tell you everything you need to know lol.

Trump is very good at making small businessmen take pennies on the dollar for work. Changing lives for the worst.

From the party of the candidate who has built nothing and employed no one, this is rich. Get Hillary off the dole 2016.

Every tax payer in the US holds debt from China, doubly so since Obama has been in office.

Tell us what Mr Baby Hands built using those small hands. As for the people he "employed", you mean the sub contractors, right? Some small percentage of which Trump paid pennies on the dollar for contracted work. And since you say Trump is a builder and employer, all we ask is proof. As in, prove your net worth Mr Orange.
