This economist article says that as many as 3 million lives were lost during the Congolese Civil War. I'd like you to imagine the number of small arms required to neutralize 3 million lives, and how much money coud be made in selling those arms. A global small arms treaty would devastate the arms industry, at a time when we as a nation should be committed to the delicious prospect of fully monetizing human suffering.

The SCOUS has ruled a few times that treaties don't supersede the Constitution.

This a a feel good move by Trump to shore up 2nd amendment supporters among his base, while ensuing profits for arms makers that sell their products in war zones.

Yes. Clearly. Now, acknowledging that Obama was a continuation of America’s long history of doing so what’s you point on the matter at hand? I get people are clearly hypocrites on this matter but do you have an actual viewpoint beyond pointing it out?

We also don't like aiding the enemy, but we're still friends with the Saudis who fund terrorism against western nations. We're friends with the Pakistanis who hid OBL. Womp womp womp.

True, but this treaty was aimed at reducing arms in conflict zones like the Congo.

It was binding to all parties to it.

We're not the only ones arming criminals.

Whether the treaty did any good or not, and how the loopholes were arranged, who knows.

I know it was sold by right wing conspiracy sites as something the UN could use to nullify US Constitutional sovereignty. As if they were to declare the Southside of Chicago, Rocky Mount, NC, or Camden, NJ, conflict zones so they could rush in the blue helmets .

Some people need to get a grip on reality and stop buying into unfounded conspiracy theories.

I’m not sure I see the validity in this point. Couldn’t the rest of the world do this regardless of what treaties we’ve signed?

America, being the dominate country on the planet, doesn’t keep to it’s commitments. Therefore, we should withdraw instead.

What kind of nonsense is that?

The treaty wasn't ratified by the Senate, yet, so it's the President's purview to pull us out of it.

It wasn't likely to be ratified anytime soon either.
