    Yep, they went there.

Heh. Well if Cruz should somehow win the Presidency, I hope the Democrats' wingnuts don’t pick up where the Republicans' primary season wingnuts left off. I could not take another eight years of fights over whether a sitting President with at least one American parent is eligible for the office.

I respect that he is at least following through with this unlike many others who argued against Obama and who are now mum on this topic.

On the one hand you're absolutely right.

On the other hand he's clearly doing this for political gains.

Of course it is, everything he does is for political gain. The real question is how this will fair for him. His momentum has slowed down a bit in the last few weeks.

Maybe we can get a standard for who is a natural born citizen. I am pretty sure the birthers are going to lose this one.

On the plus side, it's at least good to know that some people are consistent with their stupidity.

I suppose that all depends on how many birthers really cared where Obama was born, believing the conspiracy theories out of simple naïvety, verses those who just used it as an excuse to justify their bigotry.

We have it. If either parent is an American citizen at the time of the birth, the child is as well.

I appreciate that these dum-dums are wasting their money on a suit they can't win.

Cruz, like McCain is eligible to run for President. It would be good to have a court clarify the definition of natural born citizen though so it isn't brought up constantly when there is a candidate with dark skin or a funny name.

If he was either born in the US or abroad to a parent who is a US citizen then he's welcome to run.

Don't they all do it for political gains?

Plus, the same people who went after Obama should be the same ones going after Cruz. Once they know of the base issue and to get to the truth.

I believe the qualifier is "on US soil"...

How strict are these rules of qualification, why were they put in, and are they worth keeping? If not, provide a great reason why.

The Birther Issue is like a double-edged sword for the Republicans. They first used it to attack Obama. But now they are using the same weapon to cripple their own fellow GOP politicians.

    Gotta love Trump.

There was no basis to attack Obama on birtherism other than racism. At least with Cruz, there are those with more knowledge than us who think he's ineligible. Here's one from the former chief judge of NYS.

Constitutional history shows Cruz ineligible for White House

I always thought Trump was scottish, because of the way he bleats on about being scottish.

I'm suddenly surprised to learn he was born in New York.

I wonder how Scalia, an "originalist" in interpreting the constitution, would have ruled if the case had come to the supreme court while he was alive

A citizen is either "natural born" (birthright) or "naturalized". Any citizen from birth can rum for president. It's really not complex. The only argument against here comes from a Swiss legal scholar, which is an opinion that is basically meaningless.

I have a problem with the fact that Cruz only gave up his Canadian citizenship when he decided to run for President last year.

I should think it would be pretty normal to hang onto dual citizenship until and unless something came up that made it personally or in this case professionally better to relinquish one of them.
