Wow. But his base laps it up, don't they?

Doesn't care about the historical context of that word. Or does he and is signaling to some of his supporters. I mean - he makes Globalist sound like a dirty word.

Wow. And that video still does him no favours either.

This ladies and gentlemen is why History should continue to be taught in schools…
Mind you, I think a large percentage of his audience probably pride themselves on their lack of historical context/knowledge or when last (ever?) they read a book.

Edit: Don't worry, I am not writing this from outside the US de haut en bas… we have the same issues here.

Well what's wrong with that? So he does not put other countries 1st, bow and kiss their leader and go on a world apology tour? Nothing wrong with putting the USA 1st..

It's when Nationalism is combined with SOCIALISM where problems arise.

    Nothing wrong with nationalism.

Exhibit A: Germany and their Nazi party.

I replayed the Trump Texas rally last night and fell asleep to it. Never slept better.

    :):D

They pride themselves in being ditto heads. That’s straight from Rush Limbaugh’s massive cranium.

He knows exactly what he is doing. Appealing to the racists without saying specific racist things. See Lee Atwater for reference.

Except the Nazi were had little to no socialist aspects, unless you were white, blonde haired and blue eyed.

Nationalism combined with racism is when problems arises. Again...
Replace Jews with people of color. Keep brown people out of the country. Round them up and put them in internment camps. How long before we begin gassing 'em?o_O

There's a difference between Nationalism and Patriotism. I suggest you look both up. Nothing wrong with patriotism. Here. Let me help: https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/nationalism

He knows exactly what he’s doing. He’s pandering to the xenophobic elements of the right by attempting to reclassify a word with a clear and obvious meaning so he won’t get the same labels they do.

He turns to the camera and says, “Hey, it’s not a bad thing to be a nationalist. It just means you care about the country first and foremost”. Then he turns towards his base and talks about Muslims, criminals and rapists from sh!thole countries.

Oh come on, no one is proposing to gas PoC. I mean, not in public anyway.

Who knows what these Trump supporters talk about behind the scenes though:

Sounds like a prerequisite for the leader of a nation.

Keep on winning, Trump. I’m not tired of it yet!

One is a nationalist, one is not.

I know which one I respect more.

Once again, people leave historical context out of this.

In and of itself, being a "U.S. first" person could be classified as a nationalist. Of course, there's nothing wrong with the idea. But - as large a moron as Trump is, he knows what he's doing. This is more dog whistling, because the historical use of the word in this country has a lot more connotation to it. That is why he's using it, talking about brown people is his go-to tactic when under pressure, and between his talk of immigrant caravans and his use of the word "nationalist", this is just banging the drum to rile up that sector of his base to make sure they know he hasn't forgotten about them.

That's a poor example if you're trying to illustrate someone who is a nationalist and one who isn't. But then again, it seems clearer to me you don't understand the meaning.

Yeah, "nationalists" are great. Like these guys:

Can't wait till they take the country back and bring back traditional values like burning crosses and white sheets. Good times.

Since you brought it up and are going so far with this, you tell me? When is Trump going to gas people of color? When is he going to take our guns?

Collusion doesn’t matter, Trump sniffs the throne of the leader who’s country interfered and continues to interfere with our democracy. You dabble in things of your imagination with no basis in reality, but ignore what is clearly in front of you. Trump puts America second only to Russia, so the idea that he’s a nationalist in an “America first” sense is a joke.

you know what he’s saying and I know what he’s saying when he mentions being a nationalist, and it has nothing to do with trade deals or standing up to countries trying to interfere with our process by spreading targeted propaganda, and it’s not really even about immigration as far as fixing a broken system.

Why does he only call himself a nationalist when talking about people of color and the country’s heritage? It doesn’t take a genius to see what playbook that is taken from.

What does not being white have to do with “would rather be Russian than a democrat”?

In the best case, you are comforted by watching people who would rather be Russian (with completely different allegiance) than an American whose allegiance is to the US but has different political beliefs.

In the worst case, you are comforted by watching people that think people like you are sub-humans.
