It's funny to think that when we look back on Obama's time in office in a few years time, the general consensus will be that he's been one of the greatest presidents of our time. Trump's legacy is already written.

entire term at war
bombed more countries than Bush
indefinite detention w/o trial signed into law
out spend Bush
went after the AP
fast & furious scandal
IRS targeting conservatives scandal
stayed mum while Hillary & the DNC cheated on Bernie
beer summit due to his own stupidity
bombed DR's w/o borders
bombed wedding parties
Libya fiasco resulting in over 2.5 million refugees with 1000's dead.
lowered credit score to AA rating.

those partisan glasses you guys wear are THICK.

Jesus JK. In any case, usually the Economic cycle is independent of the Political one.

When the current sitting "president" claims the results of his predecessor as his own then the economic cycle IS political. Nobody on here is even gonna attempt to say it is Reality TV President's doing just as nobody would try to claim the meltdown Obama inherited in 2009 was Obama's own doing.

But Trump told me he inherited a mess.

The untold story: The unemployment rate went UP.

So with Trump taking the credit for the job gains over the past few months, and this is now, as he proclaims, "under his watch", he's smegged up on people losing jobs. So what's his excuse?

I'll just leave this here: - "However, starting this July, Carrier, which produces cooling and heating equipment, will lay off 632 Indiana employees as it moves its fan coil operations to Mexico."

Labor force participation sensibly increased, which is very good news.
You also have to take into account the time of the year. June 2017 unemployement rate is lower than June 2016.

Well, both of those things have been said. A lot. My point is/was than other than trying to score Political points, the Economic cycle is largely independent of Politics. Thank God...

The unemployment rate went up because the labour force participation rate ticked up. In other words, more people are looking for jobs than before, not because more people lost their jobs.

Again, goes to my point: What's Trump's excuse this time? He can't take the credit for something that was done before he became POTUS, while blaming something that truly happened on his watch on his predecessor. He's taken the credit for people getting jobs and the unemployment rate going down earlier this year after he took office. He now can't blame anyone else but himself for that same unemployment rate going up, regardless of who does what. In short, he can't take credit for the accomplishment, and then pass the buck, as you are insinuating, for his failures.

That is quite the double standard.

You could also compare June 17 and January 17. It would be just as valid.
Yes it would. :)
But if you want to have a better snapshot you can't really compare the previous month to the following one especially when the variation is so small. That is, saying that "unemployement went up" without taking into account a larger period AND the participation rate would be somewhat reductive. That's what I am trying to say :)

Excuse for what? The numbers are good news for him.

Plenty of right wingers try to claim that it was his fault. That's how they justify their claims that the economy didn't grow much at all under him since it didn't hit the low point until after Obama was in office. I think the real test for Trump will be if there is still job growth after he has been in office a year.

Yet over the past 12 years, everyone complained when the unemployment numbers went up for Obama?

Again, people looking for work = good.
Employers not having the jobs to accommodate = bad.
People trying to find work and not finding work = bad.

So again, the excuse for the unemployment rate going up (read: people not finding work) is...?

Barring another crisis, the real test will be salaries and standard of living. Also debt reduction (although he can't do much for personal debt).
Unemployment is not going to be much much better.
